    A Colonial Veteran Postcard

Gents, Here is an interesting Colonial Veteran Association postcard. The card shows various Colonial uniforms worn by the Schutztruppe and Polizeitruppe during the war. A nice quick overview of what was worn by German and Native troops.

    Kinder Seitengewehr

Yes, never say never but generally speaking when you find a brown leather frog with a pointed bottom to the pocket it will be Bavarian. Not all Bavarian Seitengewehre had pointed frogs but pointed frogs are generally Bavarian if you get the distinction. Here is one for a KS98 style bayonet.

    Kinder Seitengewehr

Thank you for the comment Jonas. You might have also noticed that the riveted frog is distinctly Bavarian with a V shaped bottom to the brown pressed paper pocket. The blue & white Troddel made in Bavarian colors could approximate a NCO style knot. I like these little child swords and edged...

    Kinder Seitengewehr

I thought I would show an example of the child's bayonet (Kinder Seitengewehr) that shows up from time to time. This is a minty bayonet and accouterments that are still on the original card. The little bayonet is an example of the S98/05 with an ersatz frog and a blue & white Bavarian Troddel...

    Wurttemberg Landjager Korps display

I love your new Wurttemburg Landjager helmet. I have a few "L.K." property marked items but these are few and far between in my experience. Here is a Wurttemburg Landjager property marked S98/05 bayonet. This one was originally manufactured in bright metal (polished) but it has subsequently...

    Large Bavarian presentation photo album

A wonderful photograph album. I love these things and have 30-40 albums myself. The identified presentation ones are few and far between. Congratulations on your SOS purchase.

It is a nice photo with all the bells and whistles. It was also a lot of money. That is an auction for you though.

    Liner signature

The center letters "FFw" seem to indicate Freewill Fireservice. From a Feuerwehr helmet?

German Proofed .380 Dreyse Revolvers Constabulary Type - Berlin Police Revolvers?

You are welcome. Also from the book, "Dienstwaffen der deutschen Polizei und Gendarmerie - Weimarer Republik 1919-1933" by Horst Friedrich, I thought I would show an example of the "Polizeirevolver (Constabulary-Typ) und Taschenrevolver" shown on pages 222-223. These small six shot revolvers...

    1931 in Germany

From a photo album in my collection. Be aware that the nationalized Polizei officially inherited the flags and traditions of many of these Imperial units after 1933. This was particularly noticeable in the Colonial units including the Polizeitruppe. Notice the mix of soldiers in this group...

An outstanding example of this helmet. Congratulations!

German Proofed .380 Dreyse Revolvers Constabulary Type - Berlin Police Revolvers?

The revolver that you show is described as a "Bayerischer Gendarmerie-Revolver Modell 1892" in the Horst Friedrich book. The Berliner Typ is very similar but has a safety lever on the left side of the frame. Below is an example of the Berlin Type Police revolver. These Police revolvers are...

The Old Way To Add To Your Collection

Great photographs of the damage caused by the tornado making a direct hit on the buildings. I remember John Conway telling us at the Kansas City Military Collectors Club (KCMCC) about the tornado and how they were trying to rebuild. John was the club secretary and I was the vice president...

The funeral of the Kaiser's wife

Here are two examples (Mounted & Foot) of Bavarian Mourning Portepee alongside a standard Bavarian Officer Portepee for comparison. The knots are black with blue highlights to denote Bavaria. Very scarce accouterments.

    Basic issues......

I would suggest looking at the Pickelhaube Restoration section of the forum. I know that I posted a before and after of a Berlin Police helmet that I restored. There are a lot of good "do" and "don't" information to be found there.

    Colonial Cap Eagle

Gents, I have a rather scarce cap insignia of the Colonial Schutztruppen / Polizeitruppen that I thought I would show. I was not certain what it was when I bought it at a show but research determined it is seemingly an insignia only worn by specific Senior NCO Portepeeunteroffizier in the...
