The Old Way To Add To Your Collection

Great photographs of the damage caused by the tornado making a direct hit on the buildings. I remember John Conway telling us at the Kansas City Military Collectors Club (KCMCC) about the tornado and how they were trying to rebuild. John was the club secretary and I was the vice president until about a year ago. Several club members worked at Manion's over the years and shared stories about picking up small items like medals or patches in the woods for years after the tornado scattered them there. They never recovered from the loss.

I still h
i use to get things from Col. Stoddard once in a while. Got a M'15 uniform blouse from him for $25.
I still have some of the Col Stoddard list of helmets for sale .
Run of the mill helmets were $25 ( including officers )
rare helmets were $ 50
I think that Walter Eric Hartmann was a contact for him

Speaking of the old way.......I just now received the Jan K. Kube catalog at 11:35am PDT for the May 20th auction. It was sent from Munich on April 28th. I'm glad I did not wait to send my bids.

A member of our site had asked me
what I thought the value of a Garde Pioneer officers helmet
might be on todays market.
My reply was that I was not able to answer the question ,
because I bought mine so long ago
that I had not kept up with today's price
I got out the old list from where I bought it
1973 and I paid $ 350.00 for it
I still have it today in my collection

Thank you for this exciting look at the US market in 1968/70!
Now one would have to make a comparison with catalogs from Europe. I can only serve with Kube from 1983…

I was with Kube since the start
I knew of him via a collector friend in
Stockholm , Sweden ; Jarl Hartze
Jarl had a music store and sold instruments
He had a full time employee who took care of his helmets
Jarl when all over Germany and made friends with other
collectors and bought a lot of helmets .
At one time Jarl had 13 G d C helmets with eagle tops
There was an old time collector in Germany who
collected only Kurassiere helmets
When he passed away his widow invited Jarl
to visit and select 1 helmet of his choice to remember her husband by .
The rest of the collection when to Kube for sale
and that was the start of his first offering
Kube had a shop in Munchen
I still have 35mm color slides of the Kurassiere collection
that Jarl took and made me a duplicate set
