    Pelzmütze H.R. 4

It seems to be made from bear skin. It looks original but I have never seen a liner like that with so many folds around the rim and puffy edges. The interior construction appears to be proper.

    Hessen Train Battalion 18

Thank you Philippe, on closer look I believe that you are correct. The 25 is very faint but this would make sense. The finished product. Stitch line...I am half way across returning where I started. Note as well, 2 spike base brads have to be removed in order to get the spine out of the way...

    SOS 2025 Weather Forecast

Yeah, sorry boys to rain on yer parade.....it was 75F today here in Florida (24C). Back home in CN they are expecting a snow storm of 20-40cm :( We are really not looking forward to going back to that. friend of mine presents uniform

The German term for the colour of this tunic is "dunkel blau" dark blue. These are obviously quite colourful and in 1910 the Germans switched to a "feldgrau" cloth and this is what was worn by their soldiers in WW1 and WW2. Many of these 1895 uniforms have moth damage, missing buttons etc. and...

    Missing spike?

The fittings on this were fire gilt brass and this was a Prussian officer helmet originally. There are many photos here of complete Prussian officer helmets, so do some research. I would also recommend looking at: The Kaiser's Bunker website which is the best English source for pickelhauben on...

Thank you Alan, for giving me an opportunity to do a little bit of restoration on your helmet. The condition of this piece is amazing considering the year it was accepted into stores by TB18. I have been very fortunate over the years to be entrusted to restore many rare pickelhauben. I have...

    Hessen Train Battalion 18

Thanks for the photos of your TB 18 Brusik, good to know that there are others similar to this one. What is the date on your helmet, 1905? It is interesting to note that Alan’s helmet was already in service for 14 years before the War started. From what I have read, the life expectancy of a...

    Hessen Train Battalion 18

Another special helmet sent to me by Alan S. to do a simple rear visor restitch. This piece is in excellent condition and has awesome pre war Battalion ink markings. Some photos: The coppery tinge to these fitting is no "light trick" I believe they are made of "cupro aluminum" a metalic...

    SOS 2026

Amy certainly is a force in the pickelhaube market! Have a great vacation Amy! Yes the careless actions of a dealer and his crew in 2024 spoiled it for the rest of us! 😐

The chin scales appear to be flat when all mounted troops wore convex (curved) scales. Flat scales were worn by infantry units.

    Saxe M67 Restitch

Another sunny day here in the low 70's F- 22C. I finished this old beauty and will deliver it to member Pionierhorn at the SOS. As mentioned, black shoe polish was applied to the stitch line to make things less obvious.
