Lieutenant Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Sonnenkalb, 96th IR

Idaho???!! I bet that was a big change from Prussia and Saxony!

Let's see some shots of your number 1.

Precious, Tony. I'd agree and say that's probably your best! (Although you do have some very, very nice stuff!)

    Garde’s & Grenadier’s?

Well, they're always infantry except for Grenadier-zu-Pferd-Regiment Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr.3, which were "Horse Grenadiers" and are listed with the dragoon regiments. Technically, dragoons originated as mounted infantry anyway, so it's still in the ball park.

    Prussian officer helmet

Thanks to that monster being posted here I was able to save someone from a gross mistake on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum. A fellow posted a link to that helmet and asked if it would be okay to purchase! Since I'd already seen it here, I warned him off.

    Book Recommendation: King, Kaiser, Tsar

I haven't read this one, I'll have to get it. If I may, I'd like to highly recommend The Last Kaiser: The Life of Wilhelm II by Giles MacDonogh. I found it a totally fascinating read and was surprised to learn how some things I'd believed all my life were actually remnants of anti-Wilhelm...

    How about Lt. Braun?

It's a wonderful photo, to be sure, but the first thing that struck me, and still does, is how high that pickelhaube is sitting on the leutnant's head! It's almost like it's too small for him. :?

Possible Padre's vestment help ID please

I have no idea what this is, but why would you think it's disposable? I would think it would be used over and over. Put on the funeral wreath, removed after the funeral and used for the next one.

Ever seen a Liechtenstein Raupenhelm before?

    No, I haven't, absolutely amazing.

    Hessian field artillery helmet

Well, I'm not one of the most knowledgable folks here, but I believe all Hessian helmets had the cruciform base, so I would guess this is a helmet from somewhere else (probably Prussia) and has had the Hessian wappen put on it.

I love it, Joe! Super, super fine!!!!

    Lions head side mounts

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that's not a military helmet at all. The wappen eagle is not a national eagle, so I'm guessing it's a city wappen from somewhere. Could possibly be police or fire service.

Lager Wache - 35th Landsturm Bde (Tschakos aplenty)

Please don't take this the wrong way Tony, I just love your shako, but I sometimes wonder if there was any jealousy between Landsturm and regulars/reservists. "Gee, they get to wear that really pretty pickelhaube with the nice eagle on it and all I get is this rather plain shako!!" kind of...

Lager Wache - 35th Landsturm Bde (Tschakos aplenty)

Very nice photos! I see a few fellows in there that haven't missed any meals since they got in the Landsturm.
