    Saxon Garde Reiter Metalhelme

I thought the helmet looked pretty good, until I noticed the rear feet of the lion aren't even touching the helment, the base sticks out into the air just a little bit. If you look at the helmet Ron posted the lion is firmly planted on the helmet.

    The Dreyfus Affair

I thought Captain Dreyfus was Jewish? I seem to recall that part of the scandal was that he was singled out and persecuted because of his religion. The Order of St. John is a Christian order and would not have admitted a Jew, especially at that period in history.

Garde du Corps red eagle ?

I may well be wrong, but I believe it's the flash and the angle of the photo that gives the eagle that red appearance.

    Shoulder Board

I'm thinking they're from Königin Augusta Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr.4 which had blue shoulder straps with a crowned A in red. It's kind of blurry but I think that's an A on the shoulder strap with a rather large crown above it.

    See anything unusual?

Could this possibly be as simple as reservists being called up and since they were Customs men the supply sergeant simply said, "We're a bit short on helmets and since you've already got a Zoll helmet, just wear it."? If they were going to wear a cover on it anyway, who'd know?

    Open season on identification

My thought, from the shape of the cypher is he's either from 4. Thüringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr.72 or Füsilier-Regiment Königin Viktoria von Schweden (1. Pommersches) Nr.34, they both had a cypher that came to a point on the bottom.

    German Imperial Swords

Rony, Not meaning to answer for Tony, but since I'm here I'll do what I can. Yes the two swords are M1889 Prussian Cavalry Mannschaften private purchase Degens. Yes the issued swords didn't have the folding option, but a soldier could still purchase his own private purchase sword without the...
