    My optimistic 1895 helmet restoration

I can update with a little progress I was given a front visor which is now stitched in place. Still need visor trim and rear spine but I’m happy with the progress to date.

    This followed me home today

This followed me home today model of 1868 Rupennhelme, for artillery and Chevaulegers. It needs a bit of love but for its age it’s in reasonable order. There’s a brass strip missing, the “caterpillar “ is detached and an additional pompom is missing from above the cockade.

    Rauppenhelm

I collected the helmet today, pictures attached. One brass strip is missing and the caterpillar is detached. How was the caterpillar top fixed to the helmet?

    Rauppenhelm

This is well out of my field of interest or expertise, and not really the era I collect (I’m more WW1), it’s a Bavarian Rauppenhelm, that much I know. I somehow now own it and should pick it up this weekend. Is it good, bad, indifferent? Thanks in advance Andrew

    Chin strap buckles from ebay

I purchased some of the chin strap buckles off eBay some time ago and they got the better of me today, I finally put one together using a scrap of old leather strap ( yes it’s a bit short). These buckles appear to have been cut in a water jet cutter and have the usual cut marks that a water jut...

    My optimistic 1895 helmet restoration

Here’s a helmet that had languished on my shelf for quite some time, this was in a bulk lot of three neglected helmet shells I found on eBay.fr . The only thing remotely interesting about these helmet shells was this one with MG markings as I have a misguided passion for MG08’s. I rehydrated the...

1895 pattern visor and rear spine

Here are some images of the forlorn Pickelhaube, this was literally squashed flat, almost resembling the shape of a football. It has reshaped nicely and where the dry leather was torn I have reinforced it with leather glued to the interior. Yes it is in bad shape, there are images of the...

1895 pattern visor and rear spine

And that’s would be very true Brian, but this one is special (to me) hence my attempt at finding the parts to restore it Otherwise I would not bother. It was crushed and I have reshaped the body. It’s a MG marked helmet and my passion is MG related items. If anyone had some bits to spare I...

1895 pattern visor and rear spine

Hi All I’m in need of a visor with brass trim and a rear spine in brass to fit a size 55 Pickelhaube. If anyone can help please advise. I have a pioneer helmet rear spine which I brought as a brass one. It was lacquered and the pictures made it look like brass. The tab the fits under the spike...

Out of shape and looking for a way to get some exercise.

Gus, the best exercise would be the “ gun show dash” dash around every show you attend as quickly as possible while scanning for bargains on the sales tables. The more you buy the more effort it takes to carry, the more exercise you get, it’s a win win situation. Another alternative would be “...

Heads up, suspicious messages from pickelhaubes.com messages

🤣 I would have been tempted if it was a Pickelhaube....., I should have looked, it may have been a ploy to entice me into thinking I was in for naked pics and it genuinely was someone selling a Pickelhaube? But I doubt it.

Heads up, suspicious messages from pickelhaubes.com messages

Hi All, Just a heads up that the page may have an unwelcome visitor. this just popped up in my messages from Pickelhaubes.com, I’m pretty sure Emily is not a Pickelhaube collector.

    MG Insignia Aermelzbzeichen der MG-Scharfschuetzen-Formationen.

BTW - Wife's Uncle was an MG gunner during the war and never had this badge As I understand it this is s MG specialist insignia, not all mg crews were trained as such.

    MG Insignia Aermelzbzeichen der MG-Scharfschuetzen-Formationen.

I have had a response from a collector that had researched the MG insignia. In his opinion this is a late warJunker made example. I’m happy with that 👍
