"New" Wappen for the old Prussian lady

Hi Sandy! I fully, totally and completely agree with you! I made a temporary exception this time though, because I have the sad feeling that I won't soon get around to soldering on a new loop. Due to a quite exotic range of physical/neurological ailments I can't be trusted with anything hotter...

    Dragoner Regt 16 Restoration

A heroic endeavour! I wish I was as good and as brave as you, Brian... then I wouldn't have to make improvisations like "glue rivets" as described in my thread about the recently acquired Wappen for the old Prussian lady! :D

"New" Wappen for the old Prussian lady

Thanks guys! Yes, I'm happy with this Wappen \:D/! Nobody else seems to have wanted it, so it finished up with me as the only bidder for 30 euros only. I think the missing loop on the reverse made others hesitate (yes, that is a bit of a bother), plus the fact that in the pics on eBay it looked...

4 medals, some from 1870/71, and a Kleines Schiessbuch dated

It can't be cured, Coert... once the virus has taken grip, it never lets go again :D! Good and interesting stuff. mate!

"New" Wappen for the old Prussian lady

This morning the "new" original Wappen for my old Prussian lady arrived. It was cheap, on account of one of the loops on the backside having disappeared during the years: 30 euros which equals about 35 US dollars. For that money I'm quite prepared to accept the need for eventually soldering on a...

    Tschapka and boards

I'm not really into tschapkas (they don't have spikes, y'know - grin) and I can't say much about them that would make a lot of sense. But I certainly admit that this specimen looks good! I have the feeling that this will be one of those "last minute'ers", where literally in a couple of minutes...

    8th Foot Artillery Fahnrich, Metz

I can't read the name in the photo well. "Koester" may be possible, while "Jos" probably is an abbreviation of "Joseph/Josef". I really like this kind of detective work - it makes the long dead wearer kinda come to life again!

Ah, the intricacies of international economics :D!

    Wurt From The UK

It's about 438 euros, which I would have been prepared to pay for it... if I had it - which I didn't :( Right now the euro is quite pleasing relative to the British pound, which makes for rather decent conversions when buying British offers. In dollars it suddenly looks much worse though.

    Wurt From The UK

It went for GBP 385.51 which is approximately US $515.66. I think that's not too steep a price, and I'm happy for whomever it is that got it!

    Dragoner Regt 16 Restoration

Oh dear, oh dear! It's a good thing I don't have to do something like that! With me, the sequence of the pictures would be the other way around: "before" would probably look better than "after" :D! Brian, hat off to you, and lots of success with the present project!

No, never seen the first scales attached in this sort of "folded" way.

Looks like a fair dinkum M1891 to me, one that made it unchanged past 1895 and picked up the Reichskokarde in 1897 or at any other point along the way. I don't know about it being a battlefield relic though. In that case (if it were still in service then) probably the vent in the rear spine...

    Another fake

Hi Coert! I'll be in Almere at least part of the coming weekend, for treatment of three persons. Normally I treat the specimens of suffering humanity in my own home and then let them spend the night on the couch while I keep a half-asleep/half-awake watchful eye on them, but I don't have room...

    Another fake

Indeed same thing, Coert, and what they ask for it on eBay is considerably more than what we paid at Hessenantik :( ! And at least we knew that we were buying replicas. It was today that you were in Ede, weren't you? Pity I couldn't be at home - I was having Sinterklaas in Loenen with the ex...

    Another fake

A replica, apparently artificially dirtied and aged. At least the seller states: "Da ich nicht 100% weis wie alt dieses Teil ist, dieser günstige Preis" ("Since I don't know how old this piece is, this favourable price"). Still newcomers might be tempted to buy this "bargain" as the real thing...
