    Jäger zu Pferd

Yes, to my understanding. These helmets were issued, so I assume somebody had to account for their whereabouts. A stamped number that is easily accessible would help in that endeavor. I have also heard that these "odd" numbers could be an inspector number. I have such a number on the same...

    Canteen Question

Thanks Tony. Yes, I got some info off of your website on a Bavarian canteen and a Prussian one. I have a Prussian canteen but it is in bad shape. It may have been repaired in the field but it has a rawhide base on the glass bottle. I can get a photo if you want. Anyway, I know I have seen the...

    Canteen Question

I am looking at a couple of canteens on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304129513179?hash=item46cf8816db:g:OLcAAOSw5jxhL80a https://www.ebay.com/itm/353651943314?hash=item52574c6792:g:7nwAAOSw9ExhLpKj The first one is French, and there is little question about that, but where does the second...

    Jäger zu Pferd

The 57 may be a rack number. Here are the numbers I have on a Kürassier helmet: The K.1. is for the regiment (Kürassier Regt. Nr.1), the 2. is for the squadron, and the 43. is the rack number for the helmet. I'm not sure what else it could be??? John

I too have one of these JzP's with the brighter "matte" silver finish. It appears to be more of a silver wash, like lacquer, than a paint. I don't know exactly what it is but I have seen several helmets like that. I wrote a comparison here...

Estate collection of pickelhaubes for sale

Pure65, I too believe that your prices are severely high. May I suggest a different tack? Here are a couple of websites to well known, and respected, dealers: https://ageofkingsmilitaria.com/ https://www.weitze.com/index.html https://www.treasure-hunt.nl/ These dealers sell quality pieces...

    Pearl Ring

The only time I have ever seen that type of pearl ring on a cruciform base was on Hessen helmets. Hessen helmets; however, had equal length legs on the cruciform base (the front leg was the same as the others, not shorter). This helmet has a shorter front leg. Also Hessen helmets had a fluted...

    Question about cockades

I would say that this is original, but I don't believe it is for an officer. I think it may be for an earlier helmet with screw posts for attaching the chinscales. Look here: https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/hessen-kokarden.15381/ What is the diameter? John

    Private Messages/Conversations Issue

I am happy to pay $20 a year to participate in this forum as well. I do; however, question where does this money go and who does it benefit? Apparently, unless I donate, I will no longer be able to post photographs, enter articles, or add commentary. $20 a year is a minimal cost, but we have...

    Private Messages/Conversations Issue

Brian, Is it possible to implement a five year payment? I haven't made my donation for the year yet, and I don't really like the one year $20 payment idea. Can we make one donation, $100, and get five years so we don't need to worry about it? I make no bones about it --- I'm not a big fan of the...

Model 1860 Prussian Train Battalion Officer's Pickelhaube

Thank you Tony. Do you know if they had any special symbol on their lion's head swords; like cavalry had crossed swords and artillery had crossed cannon barrels? John

Model 1860 Prussian Train Battalion Officer's Pickelhaube

Very interesting. Thanks Glenn. If I understand you correctly there could be such a thing as an enlisted, model 1860, Pickelhaube belonging to a Train Battalion? It would have a standard Prussian Line Eagle Wappen. If it was an earlier Pickelhaube the Adler would have a Landwehr cross. The next...
