    Unidentified Sachsen Coburg Gotha Helmet

Has anyone seen this configuration before on a late period military service helmet? The plate dates back to 1850. I wonder if it is a police helmet. I am looking for this plate.

    Austro-Prussian War Personalities in Photographs

Very interesting spectrum of personalities and uniform variations of the 1860's. https://www.ebay.de/itm/48-CDVS-PREUsEN-MILITAR-PORTRAS-UNIFORMEN-1865-HALBLEDER-ALBUM-FOTOKUNST-FOTOS/284149823312?hash=item4228a63750:g:aEYAAOSwYi1gAuSq

Looks to be a liner to Pickelhaube bead roller.

    An astute sociological analysis.

LOL.... What a great perspective!! Puts a whole new spin on that work space.

Looks to be a liner to Pickelhaube bead roller.

Having worked on a number of these I have always found it easier to put the spike on last so the more I can learn about the process the better. I have not seen a photo of how the leather helmet body is produced. I'll pay more attention and keep what I find on line. Thank you for getting us in...

I wonder what the women in the back are working on? They appear to be all grey helmets with spikes.

    Early Saxon Shako Plates

Thank you so very much! It does look like an 1867-style shield on a Garde Reiter star. Greatly appreciated.

    Early Saxon Shako Plates

Jan Kube's book Militaria; A Study of German Helmets and Uniforms 1729-1918 published 1990. Page 64 Figure 110 shows a Saxon non-commisioned officer's shako from 1832-1846. The on-line copy of the Kube book is fuzzy. Does anyone have a clearer picture or a picture of an original plate? It...

That Prussian pickelhaube with the plume mount is also of interest. Its hard to get any information on those for the early 1842 model.

Thank you! I have a kurassier helmet with that same visor configuration. I had never seen it anywhere exactly else as most have visors with a wider spread. It reminds me of the front end of semi-truck but I love it. I wonder if it is a musician's helmet then with that plume.

    1848 Mecklenburg-Schwerin Dragoon Helmet Warning

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Mecklenb-Schwerin-Drag-Mod-1848-Pickelhaube-Casque-a-Pointe-Spikehelmet/193658374974?hash=item2d16f04b3e:g:0gcAAOSwCRVfW7uo I was initially very attracted to this helmet for restoration. Members may not be that familiar with helmets from the First Schleswig-Holstein War...

    American Pickelhaubes

Hussar jacket but possibly British patrol jacket and/or French Artillery officer. It strikes me that that is a veteran officer who really knows how to wear that helmet... very distinguished and it also has a high dome.

    American Pickelhaubes

Norwich turning out in Bell Crown Shakos!! Wow that sure puts another perspective on those surviving examples which are also assumed to be either US 1820's issue or Militia. Those would have been expensive. I'm glad Arran got the photo. I thought it was early and unique. I guess another...

    American Pickelhaubes

Interesting... I wonder what happened to them all then, especially the enlisted helmets as there must have been a fairly large run of them then. Collectors on this web-site consider them fairly rare and our experts tend to feature the officer's models for discussion which are indeed...

    American Pickelhaubes

Thank you! That is very interesting and suggests that National Guard unit investment in the German style dates back right to the end of the Civil War. (There were a few early units who dressed in the 1842 style but that was unusual). This seems to be a more widespread phenomena especially...

    American Pickelhaubes

There are three very interesting early photos on Ebay, two of which show some American militia unit spiked helmets and Prussian style tunics. The chasseur is also interesting as it must be very early. I wonder if the rifles might date the photos. Can anyone identify them? Are they muskets...

    Stirnpanzer Helm

Posing it with the real granbenpanzer really got me going. It looks like something out of Fritz Lang's Metropolis... which makes sense considering how much film makers were drawing from the war to produce the first sci-fi and horror genres.

    Stirnpanzer Helm

A must have for any serious collector of World War I German helmets. Be careful though shipping rates from Germany are out of sight due to pandemic. https://www.ebay.de/itm/Helm-1wk-Kaiserreich-Selten-stirnpanzer-helmet-casque-brow-plate/373192644930?hash=item56e403d942:g:i7gAAOSwKWJfU7md

    Belt Buckle

I've always loved these field buckles. I like the patina especially on this one. Helmets are great but there's nothing that connects you more to an actual soldier than the object marked by the imperial crown and battle motto for the act of putting on your trousers and harnessing up your gear...
