Something French and something very expensive

And here for scale my most expensive "purchase" ever. My son Otto, born 2 weeks ago. His little hand looks a bit odd in the picture but all's fine. 🤗

Something French and something very expensive

I recently bought this French M72/74 cuirassier helmet from our fellow member Sander. I have about a dozen French adrian helmets but none of these older (cavalry) types. Liner is a bit dry but present. I found it a very attractive helmet straight away so I'm glad I have it on my shelf. :)

    Age of Kings

Wow, are those all genuine fossilized skulls? Incredibly rare. And what is that gigantic skull in the background? I once bought a molar of a mammoth. Way less impressive but I find it fascinating it belonged to an extinct giant that lived tens of thousands of years ago.

    Age of Kings

And what is it that you're collecting now? Something completely different or still relaxed to militaria?

    Dream rifle acquired!

Very nice. These G98's have a very cool look and feel. I was super happy when I bought mine years ago as well. I once saw 5 original slings on a militaria expo and bought one of them. Unfortunately I sold it some years later for no particular good reason.

That's an amazing helmet. Absolutely standing. Lucky you!

    Seitengewehr 98/02

That is a very, very rare bayonet. I have never seen one in the flesh in my life. And with the scabbard plus matching refimental markings. Insane find!

Where can I get a pickelhaube for under 300 dollars?

Regular Prussian helmets, non-unit marked, are indeed pretty cheap. Or let's say they did not follow the steep rise in prices we've seen with other militaria the last 6 years. Especially WW2. But I find it hard to relate to some prices here. Or is there a difference between the US and Europe...

    Souvenir de Belgique

That is indeed a fantastic helmet with great patina. The Wappen has a warm golden color which I like a lot. The markings are all you can wish for and it is a Hessen Haube which is in itself very beautiful. It looks like there's still something else written behind 1914. Can you make something...

    M1911 Torpedomesser

I found this picture I already had, showing it with some regular S98/05's. Here you can see it's longer and also a bit wider.

    M1911 Torpedomesser

No. It's about 4cm longer than the common "butcher" bayonet. I'll make a picture for comparison this evening.

    Seitengewehr 98 nA Säge

That indeed has everything you can wish for. Displays great with the shovel as well! What does P.E. stands for? Pionier Einheit?

    M1911 Torpedomesser

I know there are not a lot of edged weapons collectors here. But I'm giving it a try anyway since this is the only international forum I'm on. I'm selling my M1911 Torpedomesser. Really rare and in great condition. I'll let the pictures speak for itself. Asking price: 1445 euro including...

    WWI M17 Camouflage Steel Helmet

You've shown us some very nice helmets from that collection already. Great to have such a contact!

    Seitengewehr 98 nA Säge

That's indeed very nice. Great regimental markings. And with the Sägerücken. Well done!

    Lingekopf battlefield and museum

Without a doubt people are secretly doing so. But looking for remains of the war in France can lead to very high fines if you get caught by the Police.

1899 WMO Gew 98- Kaiser Alexander Garde Grenadier Regt Nr. 1

I had a 1899 bolt mismatch G98 as well, many years ago. But mine wasn't regimentally marked. That's a really nice one you have there. And even better with the matching bayonet. Thanks for showing!

    Lingekopf battlefield and museum

More to the back of the hill in the second line, this huge bunker with two floors watches over the top of the Lingekopf. You can still go inside, if you are not to big of course. Make sure to bring a light. The backside of the hill. To the German rear. Very beautiful forests here...
