A very nice silver hilt P guard saber. Silver hilt lion head pommel swords like yours were also made for the Saxon Police. These officer swords have the Saxon coat of arms displayed on the P guard. White metal swords like yours really stand out as being different. Congratulations.

The Leavenworth show always brings out interesting stuff. The area is home to many retired military who have stuff in their closets. I do well at this show held on November 20 & 21 by a local dealer with a Leavenworth shop called Overlooked Militaria.

This helmet is for an officer in the Grossherzoglich Hessischen Schutzmannschaft. The EL is for Ernst Ludwig. If your friend is interested in selling it I would be interested.

Yes, the Schutzmannschaft were Policemen.

You are correct in identifying this wartime Erel Tschako in wear postwar. The West German Police simply utilized the large stock of pre-1945 Tschakos until they ran out of these. Some were painted black instead of green cloth and some were painted white. These are shown in the Radecke books...
