    Hello Everyone

Welcome Hayden! I was glad to read that you are 'researching' the subject. Too many don't do that and get stuck with a fake Pickelhaube. If you have questions, this is the place to be.

Similar, yes. My branch of the family is descended from minor nobility. However, the area they were in was known for Poniatowski member who were indeed knights. I just found that out last week and thought it odd that I make armor. :)

I missed this thread four years ago! I use a 'bead roller' quite often making 'medieval' armor. It's very handy and can be used to start all kinds of ribbing and such on various parts of armor. Here's a back plate, the 'arm openings' for which I used the roller.

Step 1 is completed on the neck guard. A little time drilling out the old threads was trouble free. Some thread material refused to be removed from the area between the holes, and I'm not going to mess with it.

I'd never have thought of a sewing machine needle! Do you make a loop on the 'under' side and thread another 'string' through it, as on a sewing machine? I've done the double needle method and was thinking of that... but have to buy good needles.

Coming over from the 'Latest Find' thread, the biggest challenge here will be sewing on the neck guard. Thankfully, I have very fine drill bits to clean the holes that are around 2mm apart. It will just take time and patience. I have yet to purchase fine needles and cotton thread for the sewing...

    Bavarian Restoration Helmet

Compared to the work Biran does, this will be pretty basic. I have to look over some posts on visor stitching, then go from there. :) Thanks!

Thanks Brian! Try the new link (I blame my wife, although it's not her fault and she bought the helmet for me). ;)

    Bavarian Restoration Helmet

Since retiring, my funds are rather limited, but my free time is greatly expanded! This from Age of Kings, listed as a 'Bavarian Reserve Parts Officer's Helmet', it arrived today, ready to have the neck guard sewn on and other items added. Looking forward to fixing this one up. Here's the page...

My dream....Norm Flaydermann's barn find a long time ago.

I remember seeing ads in the 1960's for Pickelhaube ... $20. Were those some of these? Ron

    Chinscale Question Revised.

Asked the question about chin scales a bit soon. Did a little searching, found most of it on my own. My only remaining question. Could an NCO or even a soldier below that grade from a unit that designates a leather chinstrap, purchase a nice helmet with scales for in garrison or parade? I know...
