Coronation Tailors: Fit for a King

I have a couple of the sun helmets worn by the British Army - they are fiberglass instead of cork!

German and Bulgarian officers in Prilep (Macedonia) in 1917

Keep in mind the image has been colorized, so whoever did that could have gotten the color wrong.

German and Bulgarian officers in Prilep (Macedonia) in 1917

This was an image that someone shared with me on another forum. It shows Bulgarian officers in Prilep (Macedonia) in 1917. But are the two officers German or Bulgarian? They seem to be German? It is hard to make out the model of helmets. I may be seeing a British-made Wolseley pattern, but is...

    With Help From Gus

I have been wanting to put together a German WWI uniform display. Gus helped me track down most of these items. I have to say, I think it looks rather good!

    Identify this strange headgear?

I don't think it is Turkish Kabalak or Bashlyk. The Kabalak generally had a wicker frame, and the shape isn't quite the same as the Bashlyk, and it is doubtful any of these troops would have ever served alongside the Turks to acquire the headgear. I would venture to say wool hats of some sort...

    Dutch M38 helmet, WW2 survivor.

Very nice example. These had never been "common" but today they're practically in the rare category, especially in nice condition. The interesting thing is that the neutral nations of the First World War, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland actually seemed to devise more...

The Great War: The Western Front

Brand new computer game that was just released today: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2109370/The_Great_War_Western_Front/ I have to say this looks really impressive. It is a strategy game rather than a shooter.

    Walls of Magnets

I wanted to extend a very heartfelt thank you to those who brought my father magnets at SOS this year, and who have sent him some in the past. It really has lifted his spirits as he continues his cancer treatment. I wanted to share photos of his collection! He has magnets in his den/office on...

The Most Overrated Movie of This Oscars Season

FYI... The Atlantic called All Quiet on the Western Front "The Most Overrated Movie of This Oscar Season." Very good read I thought: https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/oscars/the-most-overrated-movie-of-this-oscars-season/ar-AA18kA6z?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=28f0c672702c4ce3aadc22a146373f3a&ei=13

    Schutztruppe helmet review request.

The handband is attached to the helmet via a system similar to the British-designed Vero's Detactable Helmet Liner, which was patented n the 1920s. I've never seen a single helmet from any country that had this type of system to hold the headband in use prior to the 1920s at the earliest. I...

    2023 SOS

My wife and I lived in NYC for nearly 20 years. You only have a day and there is way too much to do, but if like hamburgers and milksakes stop at Ellen's Stardust Diner, which is near Times Square. It has a 1950s theme.

Looks like the weather will be 50s that week but with rain. Still better than the ice storm we had back around 2007.
