First love is the BEST. My father brought me my first Pickelhaube in 1963 when he visited family in Germany. He told me his stories of great parades with horses, armor and shiny helmets. I still have it along with his toy kurassier helmet and armor from 1910.

I recently purchased a silver trimmed Prussian black plumed enlisted mans helmet. It is complete with M1 chinscales and is all untouched. The problem is the markings in the back visor. I do not understand what unit it is. Any help out there: VAV inside a cartouche and then the date 1911...

The helmet has to be from the 116th Infantry Regiment. This regiment is the only standard Hessen (plain Hessen front plate) regiment that was allowed to wear a black plume for parades.
