dent removal on pressed felt helmet..

I searched for information on the site, but may have missed it... I wondered if a person had a pressed felt pickelhaube with a dent in it if steam could be used to remove it. Prices seem to be climbing on the ebay pickelhauben that I looked at, so I bought a M1881 US military helmet...

    Uhlan czapka brim stitching

I started wondering about the stitching on czapka brims. Was there some variation...I usually read about the brim being sewn "inside out" and then turned down, so that you would not see stitching. I found a picture on the internet of what looks to be a pretty authentic one, (this was a long ago...

    M17 liner repair

I have an M17 which still has the liner. One of the 3 ears is torn down near the base, toward the metal mounting band...where most of them tear. It is about half the length of the "ear". I would like to make this more stable to take the stress off the remaining part of the leather, not to try to...

bobby helmets, anyone have a lead

I have come to a dead end on British bobby helmet reference. Does anyone have a lead as to a reference as far as what counties had what type of helmet, ball, coxcomb, or rose, and what type band went with it. About 3 years ago I found this ref. on the internet...it listed all the above info. and...

Blue Adrian with Khaki artillery plate

I would like to hear any thoughts on this Adrian...has the later war liner, and the plate I assume was added at a depot, rather that early factory paint while on the helmet. It looks to have been in place a long time, both from inside and outside. Might they have stuck a Khaki or mustard plate...

How were Shako feldzeichen made? Seems time consuming

I don't have one for a reference, but have looked at picture after picture on the web. I understand it was a wool over a wood structure. Some of them seem to show the small center oval stitched to the larger one, and then the back piece stitched to the front piece. I am trying to make one of my...

    Ebay Prussian shako stitching?

I wondered why the stitching does not quite seem to match on the top and front visor of the shako, as opposed to the rear visor and side areas? Any thoughts on the shako? item 221095522829
