    1842 Headquarters Guard?

Beautiful helmets! From the painting it appears that the kaiser had the guard star version as well.

    1842 Headquarters Guard?

With their origins in Meldereiter/Dispatch Riders Detachment, what was the purpose of expanding Jäger zu Pferde into entire regiments considering that the cavalry already possessed regiments of hussars, dragoons, uhlans, and kurassiers? The few images I see in postcards and photographs show...

    1842 Headquarters Guard?

Thank you! This clears things up a lot concerning the Meldereiter which always confused me. So here we are looking at two helmets from the guard unit of the Jäger zu Pferde? There are differences in trim color though. One helmet is chemically darkened. Changes in regulations or reflects...

    1842 Headquarters Guard?

Since we're discussing related things. I always wondered about this helmet that appeared at auction 10+ years ago. I love the appearance of it. It was listed as a Prussian Guard Meldereiter Helmet 1899. I distinctly remember it being described as reconstituted with some added parts however...

    1842 Headquarters Guard?

Thank you! The one appearing in the SS catalog appears to be a M43 Kurassier helmet with gilded fittings and 1860 guard star.

    1842 Headquarters Guard?

That makes perfect sense. I know the uniform but never considered the helmet and fittings. I've never seen another one so actually, I don't think $8000.00 would be too far out of line with what dealers ask.

    1842 Headquarters Guard?

I ran across this helmet in an old Soldier Shop Catalog I still have circa 1967. From the description it seems to be steel with guilt fittings. Has anyone ever heard of or seen a helmet of the "Headquarters Guard" like this?

The Perfect Complement for a Helmet Collection

Elegant design! I love the fact that the emperor down through the senior officers would turn out in these more casual caps as if they were engaged with their club or a hunt when in fact they're commanding the most powerful army in Europe.

    1842 Prussian Reserve/Landwehr Infantry Helmet - NCO?

I agree this is probably one of the most remarkably preserved early helmets I have seen. What a great find. Thank you for the information on casting. These cast or moulded pieces come up occasionally for sale but are dismissed as something commemorative to be mounted on a plaque or something...

    M49 Hessian

This is fascinating information. But can we really say the Compagnie of Uffz- Garde du Corps at the Palace was never 1621? How do we know that given that the Grand Dukes seemed to have a policy of changing these dates and no one here has ever seen an1849 Garde Schloss helmet before Amy's...

    M49 Hessian

I think this one may date back to the 1970's. Design rooted in Late 18th century fascination with "orientalism" that carries through into the 19th century and the pickelhaube. See: https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/object/nmah_433169...

    M49 Hessian

Its an old 1776 Hessian re-enactors fusilier helmet I got many years ago. Its all stamped brass work however and I love it. Remarkable how close the lion is to the Hessian M46 --- like direct continuity.

    M49 Hessian

I asked another collector who is authoritative on these helmets. He believes that it is a Hesse-Darmstadt schlossgarde or palace guard helmet but more research is needed to confirm 100%. Thank you Amy, I've really enjoyed researching your helmet and learned a lot about these that I didn't know...
