Identification help needed with shell case

I’ve found an extremely similar shell case with the same dimensions as my case which, apparently, was made for blockhauskanonen in the fortresses at Metz. It seems the short shell case held a reduced charge, as the guns needed to have a short recoil due to the confined spaces in which they were...

Identification help needed with shell case

Thank you for your reply! I could be wrong, of course, but I don’t believe the case has been cut down, and have just discovered in another discussion group that there was a 7.7cm by 118mm case with a primer of the same size as this one used, apparently, in shells for Blockhauskanonen installed...

Identification help needed with shell case

Can anyone help me identify this shell case? I’ve not seen another like it and research efforts are getting me knowhere. It measures approximately 119mm in length by 77mm at the open end. On the base, it has Krupps’ mark, is dated 1910, and also has a letter “B” and number 40. Some photos:

    Canadian War Trophies

A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon an interesting booklet in an antique shop. It’s a “catalogue” of the items on display in a travelling show that exhibited war trophies to the public, right after the war. Fascinating stuff!

    Iron Cross - genuine?

I’ve been offered this FWW Iron Cross. While it looks genuine to me, I know very little about these and so would appreciate knowing the group’s opinion about its authenticity.

These photos were found in an old album of family photos, at a local antique store. I hope they’re of interest to the group!

    Cabinet card

Picked up this hand-tinted photo cabinet card today, a chance discovery in a pile of unrelated ephemera in an antique shop. Appears to me to be a young Prussian kurassier officer?

    Paperweight

Here is a closeup of the flagpole top. To me, it doesn’t look like anything has broken off.

    Paperweight

Thanks to everyone who replied. I had assumed this was a fantasy piece and actually hesitated before handing over the $2 asking price. I’m so glad it’s genuine!

They’re being posted on a private Facebook group. I’m pretty sure the images are from the National Archives of Canada, but no background info has been provided. If any is, I’ll let you know!

    Paperweight

Thanks, James. Not much to see on the bottom. Looks almost like blotting paper? I’ve tried to match the flag design of a crowned eagle in a laurel wreath to a real flag, but no luck so far.

    Paperweight

I found this item (paperweight?) at a yard sale held by the family of a man who had been a fighter pilot in the German Luftwaffe during WW2. I don’t know if the family has military history before the Second World War. What do you think - fantasy piece, or something original from WW1 or earlier?
