    Helmet #2

My version of restoration. I’m guessing the consensus here is to leave these as found - but I do like the cleaned up polished look. I had to sew the back visor on, it was being held with the air vent piece. I’m sure nylon thread it’s far from the original stitching, but it works for me.

    Helmet #2

I believe the shop has 3 more total. One I believe is almost identical, but the metal parts are silver - says Koenig as well. Another is a hard helmet style, also silver metal I recall. The last one I don’t recall, I think it’s similar to mine. Place is in Maryland if anyone is interested. I...

    Helmet #2

Are these brass or some type of plating on the metal? I’d like to clean this one, but not do anything to remove the plating if that’s the case

    Helmet #2

Thank you. On vacation staying at a B&B & lighting isn’t great here. Tried to take some better pics in the john. They had 2 others at a similar price. One was almost identical, but the metal was silver not gold. Another was a “hard helmet” version. I’m a clock guy - this isn’t my area of...

    ~1915 Restoration

I did the research. I’d figured I’d get that reply, but I like it. There was grey finish on some of the metal parts, it was partially gone + some rust. Chinstrap is an obvious cheap replacement. This is likely the beginning & end of my collection. I’m an antique clock guy so I know how some...

    ~1915 Restoration

May not be to everyone’s liking, but coming from someone who just came across 1 helmet by chance, I did some cleanup to get it the way I wanted it. Also, I had to sew the visor back secure, which was a huge PIA using the original holes. Before than after pics:

    Konigsburg picklehaube found cheap

Thanks Tony. Probably to the dismay of the collectors here - I’d like to restore it to a “newer” type condition. I’m an antique clock guy, so I know the drill of how some people like patina & leave it how it is & some like a more restored look. But I also know enough not to mess with it until I...

    Konigsburg picklehaube found cheap

Hi all. First post here & I know nothing about military helmets except what I’ve read in the past hour online. Picked this up pretty cheap. Here’s what I think I know about this: -I think it’s real - Seems to have 1914 stamped on inside - metal parts seem not to be brass but some type of...
