Good day everyone,
its been ages since i've been on this forum. moved back to germany since my last post. sold all the rifles and bayonets (german customs officials take a dim view of importing historical firearms, who knew? :) ), boiled down the collection to a few solid 'Hauben and other military helmets. For the first few years here we were too broke for me to do much collectin' but in the last year or so things have looked up a bit. :)

what do you guys think of this husar muetze, alleging to the be the from the holy grail unit, the Braunschweiger? the kolpak, schnurr and kokard look too clean to not be repros but the hat itself and the mannschaft totenkopf look legit to me. but i defer to the masters in this forum for guidance, as always. Apologies if this is already discussed here, i searched for it and didnt find.

Hi,
Do you have some pictures of the inside?
I'm no expert on the Totenkopf, but what I have read on this forum is that they should have a lot of detail, and I don't see a lot of detail here. I hope I'm wrong.
Regards,
Lars

O K , I see now
for sale by Der R in Fla.
I say no on the Fangschnur
One would have to see it in a person inspection

I made a good comparison, but in any case, as Steve already indicated, Fangschnurr is something from a local marching band, so - not correct -.
But I also find the Scull strange and it looks like it was stuck between the doors of the train.
It is less "bulky" than I am used to and certainly much less detailed than it should be (IMO).
But the bandeau also appears "smooth" instead of with "minimal dots" which provide more sparkle.
The cord around the Feldzeigen also seems too coarse to me compared to known examples.
But again ,that is my opinion...
I would also definitely request photos of the inside because that is a very important aspect of the whole and you can immediately see whether it is a correct Pelzmutze or not.

In the auction link the last photo has the liner... its the many tongue type which I associate w the Jaeger zu pferde

KAGGR really gorgeous piece thanks for sharing.

Does this seller in FL have a reputation known to this community? He does seem to have a lot of good things in his shop.

You found him on EBay
he has a website for years selling Imperial German military items
He is know to be very expensive on the prices for his helmets
you can look up his site and get on his email list
He has another collector who is a limited partner in the business
The partner offers some of his helmet collection
for sale on the site
There have been some threads about the site posted here in the past

Some questionable items, like this one, and stratospheric prices are typical of this seller.
That, and his high verbose descriptions are often wrong.
I bought a rare visor cap from him years ago because he mislabeled it , saving almost $1,000.

Do not waste your money on this. Compare KGGR’s original skull with its great crisp detail to the melted plastic look of the fake eBay version The fangschnur (cord) is an aiguillette from a marching band . The whole thing is totally bogus. Collectors who have bought from this guy and have discovered problems with their items have had a hard time getting their money back.

thanks for the replies, gents.

even if i could afford it i wouldnt buy because of the reasons in my OP, but i was curious to tap into the collective knowledge on here to see what the others had to say. i appreciate the insight. there's no way i could have something like that shipped to DE anyway because of the zoll would be prohibitive. For whatever reason the German customs guys have gotten very interested in things from the USA. When i lived her in the 90s it seemed like everything arrived without a duty slapped on it, now it seems like almost nothing does.
