.

A lot of “camo collectors” will thumbs up a lot of sketchy camos as it’s self serving. I would post it on German Helmet Walhalla - the best German helmet collectors are there.

I’ve been considered a top German helmet collector by some and there are red flags all over this one. Where is the dome wear? Why the large patterned scrapes in atypical yplaces? Tool marks? Why is there a lack of field use scratching and wear? Why the unique paint and initials painted on the exterior?

When this many questions are asked the collector should step back and take a critical look at the piece.

I agree with all Doug has said, certainly agree with his credentials, plus that GHW is a great place to authenticate the helmet. What bothers me is the removal of the photos and the dismissal by the OP for the opinions from the very knowledgeable members here. If you are not really looking for honest feedback than why even post the helmet. I have some suspicions myself ... Of which I've seen many times in my role as Super Moderator over at another forum

Of course those "positive" comments over at FB give no substance which is typical. Relying on FB feedback versus forums like here, War Relics Forum, GHW and WAF, where serious collectors /experts reside is pure folly

Unfortunately I never saw the photos so I was not able to comment.

I think I also told him that it is a veteran painted camo helmet, but he dimissed everything that I told him in detail.
When I first bought some haubes, I was content with them. But then I learned here, that they where put together pieces, and not original.
Now, I'm still here, those 2 haubes however are not. You live and learn, you never learn from running away. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes..
Just take the advice given, and just stay on. Just my 2cents on this whole thing.

Agreed, I encountered a problem with my first haube aswell, it was oiled and a parts haube. I sold it and bought a better one with genuine parts. My first solid and nice M15 I will always hold dear and near to me.

Luckily he "got it cheap"

I do enjoy his complete lack of desire to learn and study on his own. So typical of people who really don't care. They have zero gratitude and below the surface are typically miserable themselves

They just throw it out there for others to do the work and then insult them when they don't get the answer they want.

True learners listen to advice and take it to heart.

would you be the same ”MAP” from WRF?, if so I enjoy your advice and expertise there.

Agree.

And yes. That's "me" over there ;). Thank you for the kind comments. Glad I could help.
Nice to have you here, the dangerous thing is if he chooses to sell it as a genuine camo helmet. I know for example that he has been making three different posts and claiming that it is genuine, perhaps misleading starting collector to think it is “genuine” and that is how a good example should look like.

It's possible. All we can do is post a warning in the other threads if possible.

Unfortunately the world is full of people like him. Quite telling when he restricts people from viewing his profile.

I have a collector friend who only collects veteran painted helmets both US and German and regularly pays 1000 bucks for ones in real nice condition.

Everyone I get goes to him for first right of refusal for obvious reasons and after seeing and handling a ton of em over the years they are mostly done by veterans for display at home or at the VFW hall where they enjoyed a drink or two.

They are done in vibrant colors with cool artwork that would not be confused with an original wartime German painted helmet by anyone and certainly where never intended to deceive.

Some other old guys here may member the trend many years ago when veterans and some collectors would apply wax and polyurethane to "preserve" the helmet. There is even a collector base for those examples.

But nobody ever wants to be the guy who gets stuck with a helmet painted by someone trying to deceive and rip-off collectors.

They just don't have a collector base and sadly don't only end up in the collections of new or inexperienced on that topic collectors.

As they say things happen and you just have to learn from it get back up and move forward. It happens to everyone at one time over the course of a long collecting life.

I wish there was an internet when I first started collecting there is much more information and beautiful pictures to help young collectors these days. You would think people would be so excited to take advantage of the wealth of information and knowledge being shared especially here and on other forums. It's done for love of the Hobby and to help preserve it for future generations.

Members are always willing help others and share not only the information they've accumulated over the many years but also their collections as well.

It's a great place to learn and I am certainly not too proud ask a question or two. ;) (y)
