A long shot restoration, any advice?

I bought this picklehaube fairly cheap, initially I was gonna dismantle it for parts. Then I thought this would be a wonderful way to practice restoring this helmet to see if I can bring her back to life. I'm not sure why the Bavarian m1914 officers wappen was bolted onto the enlisted m1895.But it looks like the wappen had been attached to the helmet for quite awhile considering its patina matched the rest of the brass hardware. At the moment I have the helmet rehydrateing via I put it in a bag along with a wet ball of news paper. Then I have a wooden head that will bring it back to shape. The crack is going to be difficult to fix,but it looks like no material is missing so I believe I could simply glue it back together.(if anyone has a better way of reattaching the crack please let me know)

I truly wish you good luck and look forward to watching the helmets coming back from the grave. (y)

I always see these helmets come up for sale and hope someone will buy them and bring them back to life otherwise sadly they have reached the end of the road.

Like you, I buy rough helmets thinking I will use the parts, and then decide “I can save this”. It’s good to see you putting this one back in shape. How did you repair the tear on the right side?
