-Bad Arolsen-Residenzschloß-Deutschland

I had a friend ask me about their excellent two-volume set on the Iron Cross which has been sold out a bit. He asked me what it cost when I bought mine when it was released and said he found one for sale for $1200 bucks.

Needless to say, I almost fell out of my chair.
I was sitting down when opening this message...kabooooom...

Thank you very much for the follow up information on the Waldeck helmets. Attached are some additional photos that I found of helmets with the different styles of wappen. It would appear that the 1846 wappen was probably discontinued and replaced at some point by the star wappen.

With the sizing down of the helmet body there was need for a new Wappen pattern. The star.

I'm not familiar with the current price of this set of books, but I got mine for about 100€ some years back. It's in English, probably harder to find than the German version. 1250€ for real???? 21 watchers lol...
150 €. Mine are the German version.

Another set of beautiful photos! I have never been to this schloss before. I think I drooled on my phone when looking at these pictures(the 23rd Dragoner!). Thank you for sharing them!!!

I'm like you I have no Idea what they are going for on the secondary market, but I know people who are looking for them after the fact and I guess they can bring what are to us CRAZY PRICES since we bought them when first released.

I tell everyone who will listen Verlag Militaria are consistently publishing the best books in the world on the subjects we enjoy and if you don't buy them when published you will be sorry.

I've been a fan for over 20 years the books are well made and hold up to regular use, but I have to admit to having two copies of the ones I enjoy a lot just in case. ;)

Sadly, they are not well known here in the US due to having no distribution which is a shame. I've heard they sell books at the SOS but if that is your business model for North American distribution which is the world's largest collectors' market, you're totally missing the ball.

I heard that the staff of Verlag Militaria will come to the SOS exhibition in February 2026 to sell books again. It's an opportunity

Thank you very much for posting these pictures!

Isn’t it the same helmet on the fist (from Semino) and the second picture (from Kube)? Later Weitze sold it.

Best wishes,

Thanks for the information, and for all the people who have the available time to travel to Louisville KY and happen to be interested in buying a book that is a great opportunity to for them.

But and it's a big but that is miniscule percentage of the people interested in Military History and a very small percentage of the enormous amount of actual Militaria collectors in North America from Canada and the US who can't attend.

I love what they are doing but I think they are not taking advantage of the biggest market in the world. With the price of shipping internationally and now with some shippers not even shipping you really need a local distributer who can ship in country to keep cost down and promote their outstanding selection on books. It's just my opinion. Cheers John Josef

Agreed. I seem to recall they did have a US distribution partner for a while, with a limited selection (usually the most recent books) but I have no idea what happened to that arrangement. Ironic that the enormity and weight of these massively comprehensive books, which is a testament to their value, is exactly what makes shipping them so costly!

Personally, I think the high shipping costs might be one reason why Verlag Militaria has been slow to expand into the North American market, especially since their headquarters are in Europe.

You're welcome. The first helmet comes from the old Militaria online.de site, the second is from Kube, the third is from the digital collection of the Deutsches Historisches Museum, and the fourth from Weitze.

Wow Francis, we visited Bad Arolsen in 2014 as my father-in-law (officer Recce + family) was stationed for the Belgian army at the time.
I was aware of the Red Cross IRCR, visit the big statue and yes, there was a 'Schloss'... Never knew there was a Waffenkammer to visit.

😎Yes. I am a retired Warrant Officer. Belgian Army. [Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Gepard] Air Defence Artillery. I know the region well. We trained a lot in that region during the Cold War.

It realy was worth the visit. This summer, was on our route to Leipzig and Dresden.
