.Pickelhaube of a gendarmerie non-commissioned officer from Badeni. An interesting example of a conversion from an older model 1871.Pattern extra from a private purchase used circa 1880.Rear rail and visor mount used on the 1891 model, but the knopf mount used in 1895.Land cockade mounted directly under the knopf, probably due to the nature of the service and numerous hand-to-hand fights with insubordinate soldiers?.Wappen raised upwards as evidenced by former mounting holes.Any suggestions are welcome. I received this pickelhaube yesterday.

Hello Wojtek ,

this helmet is an Executive Police helmet. All police helmets (not gendarmerie) had this very specific tip. This helmet is totally of Schutzmann design. Only the national front plate changed depending on the Land. The front griffin is a Dragon or Pioneer griffin. Police helmets never bear a military insignia on the front. The griffin would have to be removed to be sure of the original attachment on this helmet. Nice police M91 chinstrap. (y)

But this is a delicate subject, not nomenclatured by Prussia (unlike the military). Each “sovereign” had a certain freedom to decide on the details of the shape of police helmets (state or municipal).

Infra,

Baden “state” police helmet: Monogram of the sovereign.

Here's a Baden gendarme helmet:
---military griffin.
---tulip-shaped tip typical of the Prussian gendarmerie and many German states. Bade Gend pte tulipee.GIFBade Gend.jpgBade -Gendarme.jpg

Thanks for the pictures.
The griffin has been here for a long time - that's a good sign! But he wasn't born with the helmet. Note the 2 plugs fixed under the 2 holes.
I'm going to do some research, as we have a few Police helmets with military coats of arms of different nationalities, if we're talking about the State Police.
On the left is a “Royal Bavarian Police” (not municipal police) and on the right a “Royal Bavarian Gendarmerie”. P1010119.JPG
Even here, the plaque resembles that of the Army, but the motto is set a little lower, forming a square instead of a thin rectangle below the oval coat of arms. Bay Police Royale.jpgBay Bing.jpg

The pickelhaube was converted from the 1871 model and has an extra pattern from a private purchase used until 1880. The helmet was adapted to the 1895 model. The mounting holes have the same distance, but are moved up. Wappen is mounted with screws, which proves that it was manufactured before 1891. These are just my speculations and I wonder where the truth is?

Really like that one.

Yes, I agree with this version. In any case, the 2 plugs match the spacing of the griffin screws. So a nice helmet for the Grand-Ducal police of Baden.
