Hello folks,
Thanks for all the comments.
Irish T, thanks for the tip on Sadowa. I didn't know there was a Museum there... that'll be on my "to visit" list now..
Ron Poniatowski, yes I think you're right on the Edelweiss. Thanks for the story about your own helmet. I love personal tales like that!
Ron, let's hope that Saxon Kurassier helmet wasn't made yesterday! It seems from some of the Verlag books, that the Ingolstadt and Rastatt collections both have trial uniforms made for inspection and that many of their items were never actually issued. This Saxon Curassier helmet is a bit older again-

...and here's a couple of other 1866/70 helmets-
Prussian Haube from 1870
Bavarian Raupenhelm from the 1870 Campaign
Tschapkas, Pointystuff? Sorry no. There were probably a couple there but I failed to photograph them. You'll have to wait till I get time to post up my Vienna photos. Will Ulankas do instead?
Feldgrau Ulanka
Wartime Chevauleger
Pre-war Chevauleger
Adler, sorry I didn't find anything owned by Prinz Alfonz in my photos. But if its any consolation the Seebatallion tunic above was once owned by Kronprinz Rupprecht and the Jaeger Tschako was owned by Ludwig III.
Weapons, did you say Ron? Yeah, I saw a few. Everything from artillery to bayonets, medieval swords to Gatling guns...
I didn't know the Bavarian army had Gatling Guns (though I'm expert in that field). Can anyone tell me when these were in use?
A nice view of the breech of a G71/84. I never really understood how the magazine under the barrel system worked till I saw this one!
Model 1879 Revolver.
All in all a great day out, thoroughly recommended. The Museum's in two halves. Medieval up to 1914, then the First World War in a reduit on the other side of the river. They also have a little shop selling books. See the website at www.bayerisches-armeemuseum.de
Oh and just when I thought I'd seen the best. I found this in a cafe outside-
Schweinschnitzel and Dunkel Weizen Bier, Himmel in Bayern, could the day get any better? Probably not!
Cheers
Chris
