Bavarian vulcanfiber pickelhaube

Gorgeous helmets Ian!! =D> Tell us some more about them or are they discussed elsewhere?

Looking at the "piercing question", from my point of view it depends very much on the producer of the helmet and the money the officer wanted do spend.

It is the same helmet. I have bought it.

A nice M1897(?) Bav. Chevauleger Officer Pickelhaube was recently posted for sale on the AOK site (http://www.ageofkingsmilitaria.com/Sell_4_Link11.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)... It has all 3 crowns voided as well.

When comparing it to my Chevauleger helmet, it seems to have a slightly longer spike with smaller ventilation holes and stars + smaller chinscale rosettes.
More importantly, mine 'shines' alot more... Any reason for this variation in silver 'guilding'/shine?

(P.S. This was my 1,000's post! 8) )

That helmet won't last long on there! Very nice indeed! The silver frosted plate is only supposed to shine on the highlights if they've been buffed out, very effective and beautiful, or sometimes no shine at all! ... just that beautiful 'whitened' silver. Yuuummm!

:D Ron

Great! Now you got me all worried about the excessive buffing on my helmet since it shines all over :-k

Why? Yours looks GREAT! The plate looks beautiful and the other furniture has the right shine. Now.... go get some sleep.

I like it :thumb up:

Those vulcanfibre helmets always display well because they retain their shape; this does, however, appear to have had some light restoration. The front retaining pin looks to have been replaced at some time. I'm aware that on Bavarian helmets the front retaining pin is rareley a star(because it was hidden by the Crown of the wappen) but the style of this looks a little odd?

Here helmet with the same fastening.

Is it typical for the Vulcanfiber officer helmets to have a raw edge on the outside edge of the neckguard, instead of a narrow leather trim piece stitched around it?
