Box tschapka

I bought this item from Klaus Emig as a *Tschapka* cover. It fits perfectly, but I have never seen a cardboard box like this before.

I have occasionally seen photos over the years of a square shaped storage box with an officer Tschapka. In those few instances that I have seen a box with an officer Tschapka, I seem to remember they had the same black type of exterior on them as what the conical shaped officer pickelhaube storage cases have on them.

This is the first time I have seen a storage box with an enlisted Tschapka.

I also have a pickelhaube cover made using the same technique, i.e., made entirely of cardboard, and the straps are made of ribbon, not leather. I have the impression that they were made for soldiers of lower rank.

I have seen a few examples of these pickelhaube storage cases over the years. I have never yet owned one of them.
