Engraved iron cross

Well-known member
Good morning everyone,

I recently picked up an very nicely engraved iron cross to a rittmeister of the 25th wurttemberg dragoons königin Olga and thought I would share it here. I was able to track down the original owner as well! A career cavalryman and appears to have had quite the career i read through a large thread on the 25th dragoons on a different part of the forum and am hoping to build a comparable display around this piece. Also if anyone has a range listing for the 25th or would be able to find more information on Rittmeister Berger it would be greatly appreciated.

Carl Berger entered Dragoner-Regiment Königin Olga (1. Württembergisches) Nr. 25 in 1904 as a Fahnenjunker. He was promoted to Fähnrich on 22 April 1905 and commissioned on 27 January 1906 with backdated seniority (Patent of 21.7.04Tt). Promoted to Oberleutnant on 19 July 1913 (Patent of U3u), he was awarded the Prussian life saving medal (Rettungsmedaille am Bande) on 29 May 1914. He was promoted to Rittmeister on 27 January 1915. He was awarded both the Württemberg Military Merit Order 3rd Class and the Friedrich Order Knight's Cross 1st Class with Swords plus the Prussian Iron Cross 1st Class. He died in 1958

Very impressive! Thank you for finding more information about him, where were you able to find it at?

In the main, from his entries in the Royal Württemberg "Militärverordnungsblätter". The orbat of DR 25 is from a published Rangliste of the mobilised XIII. Armeekorps in 1915.

I was able to find a little more documentation on rittmeister berger, his former address when he was a young lieutenant as well as another document which I'm not sure of its purpose. Soon I'll have a nice mantel to go along with this display.

Good evening folks,

I've made a bit more progress on the research and collection of items pertaining to Rittmeister Berger,

I managed to purchase a long-shot ribbon bar which matches his awards perfectly (except for the Hungarian KDM although he would have been able to wear it given the service history of DR. 25.)

I am overjoyed to have this bar alongside his Iron Cross and I hope you all enjoy gawking at it as much as I do!

And, of course, my sincerest thanks to Rangemaster for using his eagle eye to help me dredge up this bar from the darkest depths of the market! I never would have imagined I'd be able to track down anymore of his items.

Now I begin the hunt for more items pertaining to Herr Berger.
