Well Dave.........there are really no words to adequately describe your collection. So many real examples of caps that we all just see as colour plates in reference books. Superb, fantastic, wow, great, sweet, sick. God I want it , shit where did he get that???. Take your pick. You even have the Schnurrmeister with his jaw flapping. Thank you for starting this thread and lets keep it going! Brian

Charles, Tony and Brian:

Thanks very much for your comments. I was hoping to carve a little collecting niche with feldgrau caps, but I fear with the advent of Tony's new reference work soon, there will be a lot more competition out there!! :D

Tony reminded me of this thread after receiving a picture of the following, and suggested I post it:

There is no shadow or hole between the cockades. It is precisely what makes the scarcity of this cap. The Catholic or Protestant field chaplains carried a silver cross between the cockades. Field rabbis didn't wear a badge between the cockades.

Best regards

Actually there is evidence from photos that Field Rabbis wore either nothing or a Star of David on their caps.

My scanner is kaput...lemmie see if my old one works so I can scan a photo

Something new on this thread. Here is an officer's schirmmutze for Husaren-Regt. Landgraf Friedrich II von Hessen-Homburg Nr. 14. Very "patriotic" isn't it?...

Here are a couple more caps with color/piping which are used for several units.

Here is the standard red-piped officer's Feldmutz used for MANY units, including generals, all infantry regiments, 1. and 2. Garde-Ulanen Regts. and Ulanen-Regt. Nrs. 1, 2, 3,4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 19, and Landwehr cavalry

This is a reserve officer's Schirmmutz for either Ulanen-Regt. Nr. 10 or Ulanen-Regt. Nr. 14. This color was also used for the War Ministry and General Staff

Dave, I love your carmine piped. As always, I remind that I've called dibs on. It... :D
