Flyboys, the movie.

Hey Slim,
In town, Tuesday night is half price, we seldom go any other night.

Hey now they at least have Hamlets and a couple cities .
I also just got back from the movie and it was not the best film I have ever seen .Wait till you see what a we get done up here in Canada by a pair of brother's and the CBC . They are currently doing a Vimy series and will butcher our history .
At least the American films don't downplay thiere military efforts.

Thanks, Peter for saving me the three bucks (well, it would have been six bucks as Maggie would have gone with me, and then there is the rest of the tenner for pop corn)
Gus

Yeah, I blew $10.75 in New York, plus more for popcorn and a drink. I should have stayed home and watched The Blue Max, Hell's Angels or a blank screen. All three are more accurate that Flyboys!

As a fan of classic military firearms I have to say that any flick where you shoot down the (sort of) Red Baron with a Revolver d'Ordannance Mle. 1892 can't be all bad! :o

Sort of like Tom Hanks blowing up the German tank on the bridge with his 1911A1 in "Saving Private Ryan." You wouldn't believe how many 1911aholics I know who thought that you could do that!

Hey Krag,
It was not that great a feat, it took two mags to bring the Panzer down. My biggest objection to the hollywood and disney re-writes of history, is that another generation of people will grow up with a further distortion of history. A large part of the history we are (were) taught in US schools, were the same type of stories made up to entertain, i.e. Gorege Washington chopping down a cherry tree.
Best wishes
Gus

Ah Krag... :? you do know... it was the P47 that blew up the tank! 8)

What I seriously want to know is why, since all the planes were CGI (computer generated images), why they all had to be Focker tri-planes? And you know, the producer of the film is David Ellison, son of Oracle's Larry Ellison (who is the only person who rivals Bill Gates for wealth).

Basically the film is a good hour and a half promo demo to show what Oracle servers can produce. They can make good graphics... just not a good film!

I just came back from seeing this. It was by far the worst movie I've seen this year. It was absolutely terrible.

Peter,

It is on the top of my list to see. I'm looking for action and entertainment. How can this possibly be worse than Snakes on a Plane?

I had a snake in my plane once, but it was eating the mice, and they were the ones that caused the fire, of course there were cows on the runway too.

This was so bad. Sweetness actually got popcorn and a Coke, and we left after about 40 minutes. Right after the snake came and jumped up and bit the guy at a critical point while he was urinating. I'm going to see fly boys, I just have to get Janet out of church lady mode. :-P

You went to see Snakes on a Plane? Wow!

But don't say I didn't warn you. I think I said it... but one more time. Flyboys makes Pearl Harbor look GOOD! :D

As Stated in the credits based on a true story. I am talking about Open Season the cartoon ,but the flyboys states the same

OK we saw the movie. First, to make this totally clear it is a far better movie than Snakes on a Plane. Secondly it has a far better love story than Pearl Harbor. In that movie the girl went from one flyer to another and back again.

So I guess those are the high points. Well I also got some good popcorn and I got to sit next to Janet. I was entertained during some of the action scenes... operative word being some.

For those who have not seen Peter's movie reviews in the last military trader, they were very good. After this movie I need something to drink.

Hi Guys:
I made a comment earlier in this thread about an 80's Brit made TV series called Wings. This was basically the story of a WW1 Brit fighter sqadron fightuing the Germans. I would still appereciate some info on this if anyone has seen it or knows whether it can be purchased. I have been hoping that it would be reborn on the History channel or some such but no luck. I was a great series at least to me at that time. Brian

Hi Brian:

This is all I could find regarding Wings:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wings_%28BBC_TV_series%29

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0155387/

Sorry to report the series is not currently available on home video.

Chas.
