Garde Landwehr enlisted helmet in brass trim

KAGGR#1

Well-known member
Here is a helmet that I have owned for a number of years .
Garde Landwehr enlisted in brass trim.
While checking the Prussian Rang List of 1913
I see the following units that might wear this helmet I think .
1 ; 2 : 3 : 4 Garde Landwehr Regts.
1 : 2 : 3 : 4 Garde Grenadier Landwehr Regts
and Garde Landwehr Garde Grenadier Regt. 5
If any of this is not correct please let me know .
The helmet has no regiment Kammer only an A K with date stamp
There is a tag inside the helmet but I can't make it out .
As far as I know I don't have a good reference as to what uniforms and
helmets were worn by the Landwehr units
If anyone knows of a reference that covers the Garde Landwehr
please let me know
Thanks

No it is pure Prussian Garde .The normal Garde star for active soldiers
is replaced with the Landwehr sun burst star with the reserve cross
in the middle
These troops were I think a non active status
but I could be incorrect about that

I afraid I don’t have any references to assist Steve and you have more information than I do. There are other members here with far more knowledge on units. Unfortunately no I do not have a Garde Landwehr helmet like that, and that is a Wappen I’ve never been able to find. I believe I remember seeing this helmet. Marvellous.

Wonderful helmet!
I have an excellent reference for Landwehr units in the Napoleonic Wars.
Unfortunately it would be of no help.

Guy's the only book out there that I know of is one James Turinetti made, I am not sure how good it is, I have a copy but really have not spent much time on it.

I think the 1. Garde Landwehr had "silver" helmets.
torsten

That could be correct
as I wrote I have no good reference that
I know of that covers the uniforms and
helmet of the Garde Landwehr

Steve,
Those Garde Landwehr units have not been deployed August 1914. As I wrote you, they only have exist before the war to organize the periodic recalls of Landwehr guys during a few weeks each year in peace time. Many other Landwehr and Reserve units were not deployed 1914 and only have existed on the paper till August 1914.

I think the owner could have served in one of following regiments:
Garde-Landwehr-Grenadier-Regiment No. 1 to 5 - (Because Garde-Grenadier-Reg. No. 1 to 5 wore a golden eagle with open wings and guard star)
2nd to 4th Garde-Landwehr-Regiment - (Because 2nd to 4th Garde-Reg. zu Fuß wore a golden eagle with open wings and guard star)

Btw, I found this nice overview of how the Landwehr cross had to be worn correctly. Maybe it is interesting for some of you:

Sandy,

All those units were not mobilized...
Concerning the Garde reserve infantry, only, and really only, the 1. Garde-Reserve-Regiment and the 2. Garde-Reserve-Regiment were deployed August 1914.
So this helmet certainly has been worn in one of those two units.
Or.......In following Reserve units who were formed just after the mobilization (September 1914), first rate of those new RJR (source: Hartwig Busche: Formationsgeschichte der deutschen Infanterie im Ersten Weltkrieg 1914-1918):
