And another big tome from Jim Turinetti. Color printing and a gazillion pictures. I have not gone through the entire book but Jim certainly crammed a lot of data into this thing. Looks as though this would be quite good especially if you are starting. Yes I still use his “field guide” extensively.
I am sure somewhere in there there are mistakes/issues but my goodness there is certainly no lack of documentation here. I am not one to be called a “hyena in the wood line” castigating this with faint praise. There is a hell of a lot of information here and pictures to boot. Color. Jim certainly does not stay out of the fire but my goodness there is a great deal of work involved here–I really need to go through it in detail. He even goes through and explains the battles around the honorary battle mentions on some of the wappen!

okay my quick question off the top–in these pictures of married couples you comment about the color of the wedding dress . perhaps the answer is in the big book but could you expand on that? Great job Jim.

During the early years of the war many brides chose to wear a dark colored dress to pay honor to the war effort. They still wore a white veil (since that was the symbol of virginity and heavens they wouldn’t want anyone think that there had been any hanky-panky.) As the war stretched on this symbolic gesture seemed to fade in popularity. If you see a wedding photo with a bride in a dark dress is is certainly a wartime wedding. If the bride has the traditional white dress and veil, the wedding could have been at any point in time and you’ll need to look for other clues to date the photo.

Hi Joe & Jim,

Is this an entirely new book by Jim, recently released? I gather that it is, from Joe saying that "he still uses the Field Guide". (As a side note, I really like using the "Field Guide" book as well.) I cannot find any reference to this "new book" on Jim's website: http://www.kaiserhelmets.com/index.html, nor anywhere else on the internet. Does anyone have a link to it showing information on it? Dumb question, but is this the large? expanded version of the field guide book, or something entirely new, since it sounds like it's more of a collector guide book from the title? Can either of you two fellows clarify this?

Thanks guys!

All the Best,

Alan Schaefer

This is an entirely new book, number six. It is intended as a basic guide to collecting Imperial German Headgear. (Helmet Collecting for Dummies could beanother name but I don't want to get into copyright issues.)
I have hot listed it on my web site yet. I planned on introducing it at the MAX in October, and then list it on the web site. Joe bought an early copy and I'd be very happy to provide it to any of the members of Pickelhaubes.com. I must apologize for the price. There is a great deal of color in this book and as such my production costs are pretty high. I am selling it for $55.00 plus S&H of $5.00 for buyers within the USA. Buyers outside the USA should write for their S&H costs. I'll accept personal checks or Paypal. (If you use Paypal please add $1.50)
