Wow great job.
What did you use for fill ?
The old time recipe ?
Shredded leather mixed with shoe glue. I applied the paste with a spatula. Later I sanded the filling with sandpaper. The whole thing is painted with pikelhaube shellac dissolved in spirit. Shellac needs several days to dissolve in spirit.

Excellent result! I have several of these that need some restoration, notably leather straps, which are unvariably broken, and lids that are fragile and frequently damaged.

Covers are repaired well, provided you have the right material. In total, I have already repaired ten of them. They are not as demanding as pickelhaubes.Best regards.
