KR2 Helmet---SOS 2014

Great helmet Joe!! One I am looking for (I bought one at an auction online but it was immediately shipped back to the seller...).
Is it yours?...
Bruno

:bravo: One fine helmet it is Joe ! The "sunken" cross in the Wappen !!
And of course: important: this were the men that charged in Halen !
Must be a great inspiration for the project... :D
I keep telling the missus that I need a bit of extra "inspiration" for the project myself as well... :-?
(A Dragoner Nr 17 or Nr 18 would help....)

:thumb up: :thumb up: :thumb up:

Thank you !

Francis

Yes Bruno it is mine. I am lucky to have it and thought perhaps it the museum in Halen might need it. They have so much stuff in there it is amazing. They have officers helmets!

Thumbs up Joe! Very nice indeed. Wasn't this KP Wilhelm's regiment? ... or am I mistaken AGAIN?

My Cousin lives in Wroclaw (Breslau) in Poland. I'd love to find a 1KR helmet. Next time we visit her, I'm going to see if the Kasserine (sp??) is still there. Probably not, the city was knocked on its butt in WWII.

Very interesting helmet Joe! Do you think the chinscales are original to this helmet? They seem to be too long or are they just sitting to high? Hard to see in the pictures...

This is the first time that I see this wappen where the bandeau does not run thru behind the eagles tail. :-k

Yes that is very odd. Even for a reserve helmet I cannot understand why the eagle would be so different when it comes to the bandeau. Are the tail feathers straight as is correct for a Kurassier eagle? Is the bandeau stamped? Could we see some photos of the back of the eable and bandeau? The makings on the shell though, are perfect.

I think they are they were sitting very high as they had to be removed to get a picture of the marking. Probably not put down enough. What really surprised me though was a difference in patina color between the scales and the connector. Almost looks like the scales are older and were used again for this one.

Compare that to Jim Turinetti's artist rendition.

Wrong again! Kaiserin [-X Pasewalk

Yes but what a horrible blurry picture!

While this brings up some great points and we need to take more pictures I'm afraid the dexterity to remove the Eagle is now beyond me. We will have to wait until someone comes down here to do that. This has to be a separate production run – the cross is inset. So this is not at all the same Wappen as the active guys. Unfortunately, with all of the pictures I have of these guys they almost all have helmet covers. Drat.

A couple of pics sent to me by a forum member who has both the officer and OR's KR2 helmets in his collection. He too was interested in the difference between Joe's Reservist wappen and what is considered to be normal. The Fotos:

The chinscales where probably modified from the screw to the mod.91 side post.

There is also a lot of space between the spike base and the helmet, for metal helmets this usually means the spike was married before to another helmet.

Certainly plausible. I really have to get more pictures. Even Janet wants to get more info on this. While seeing an active helmet is rare this is the only reserve one I have seen. Got to get more pictures. :-P G

A good looking M15 went under the hammer at e-bay but the bidding went rocketing...

I was thinking about the bandeau behind the orb and scepter, is it possible that this was a separate piece that was lost? :-k Perhaps this was a 'deluxe' plate.. I dunno. Just thinking 'out loud' here.

Spiker, that was a nice looking M15 and the price certainly did sky-rocket. But when one really wants something that can happen. I hope it's an anomaly and not a trend... well, okay, we all know it's a trend.

I checked out that M15...very nice! An interesting chin strap on it as well. I would venture to say that this M15 is even rarer than the brass trimmed ones of earlier times.

Thanks to the kindness of my wife, I got these pictures in record time. This is an interesting helmet. To start off with to replace the blurry picture of the unit marking we have this which leaves no question.

True. Why? It was made this way. Why? Don't know but is not an adjusted bandeau.

Thanks for the new photos! That IS indeed very interesting. It would make sense that the shell has two extra holes for the new reservist plate. The bandeau is indeed interestng and shows no sign of another piece behind it for its 'tails' as I was wondering. I'm looking forward ot hear what others have to say.

A replacement liner?
