Good afternoon, all!

After a few year hiatus from Pickelhauben, I happened to get in two, one day after the other. To say I am thrilled is an understatement! This one is a Lacquered M1895 Filzhelm that my wife actually spotted on Facebook marketplace, of all places. I jumped on it as soon as I saw it!

The condition is a bit on the rough side, and I am debating whether I should leave it as-is or do some minimal restoration to it. I appreciate any and all feedback from the experts here!

It's a rolled edge felt that I always have a soft spot for.
My first such example! I've had a few other Filzhelms of the typical variety, but this is my first rolled-edge. I would love to give it back some of its former glory, but not go too far with the restoration.

It's sad to see a helmet with such a story to tell in such a state but at least it was seen to have a value and not tossed in the trash.

Really happy someone who knows its history and value has saved it. (y)

I'm with you it really deserves a sympathetic restoration that doesn't destroy its character. (y)

Thank you so much, John! I definitely see the value in this survivor and think it will be able to tell a great story all its own with just a little bit of TLC.

My pleasure I'm sure that it found you for a reason and that you're the man to bring it back.

A little TLC is just what it needs. (y)(y)
