Latest find Weekend March 18 ,2022

I didn’t know that these special wappen even existed! When you have time Steve could you shoot some photos straight on so we can see the wappen clearly? Thanks. Beautiful helmets! 👍

Amy ;
A guest from Europe brought them to my "helmet room " for my approval !
I did not have to leave the house
Thanks
Steve

Brian ;
Thank you
Yes I will
Because both of these " star orders " were allowed for the front plates
of Officers helmets only and in the year 1915
a lot of the reference books do not cover them
Steve

Here is the Hessian Dragoon Regt 23 officers helmet
with the Ludwig Order with swords circa 1915
For officers only
Note the Hessian L G I R 115 has the same order bt without the swords
also the L G I R 115 had the star issued for all enlisted helmets
Note the single epaulette for a D R 23 officer with the " L " cypher
This is the only chance that I have ever had to acquire an epaulette
from this regiment
I have not seen epaulettes for D R 24 officer either
also I have not seen a waffenrock for either regiment
The 2 Hessian Dragoon officers items seem extremely hard to find

Amy ;
The Hessian FAR 25 officer was at the S O S 2020 .
I did NOT see it
A collector friend of mine from Europe bought it .
He took it back home
Then he sold it to a collector friend in Europe
I asked if he could get it back for me and he did
We did the deal March 2022
Was I lucky ? Yes !
I had the 3 Hessian officers helmets ( L G I R 115 ; D R 23 ; FAR 25 )
pre 1992 I made a big mistake and sold all 3
now I have recovered 3 helmets like them
but at more cost this go around !
Steve

Superb helmets Steve, congratulations!

A friend of mine originally owned the 25th FAR helmet since the 1980's. I tried numerous times over an approximate 10 year period to get him to sell it to me, but he refused to sell it or any of his other helmets to me after I had initially purchased a nice Prussian guard officer helmet from him, and many other things over the years. Then a dealer approached my friend and purchased it along with the other remaining helmets my friend had, including a Prussian General's helmet, and an old ?1843 model pickelhaube. That dealer took them to the 2020 SOS, and your friend Charles bought this 25 FAR at that same show. It's nice to see it's back in the States again.

Best Wishes,

Alan

As Steve mentions, the Ludwig stars were instituted on these 2-regiment's helmets only since 1915 forward. They're obviously very rare to find, as we know they were used for such a short time before the end of the monarchy system in 1918. Much rarer than the 115th Lieb Regiment Officer helmets.

I first looked at the picture, but not closely enough, and was wondering why this helmet from the 115th sported curved chinscales... then I realized!
Great helmet.
