Lining repair

The product lacked mounting strips. After numerous trials with different species of grasses, I came to the conclusion that only young willow shoots are suitable. The advantage of willow, in addition to its good properties, is that it ages quickly and acquires the right color. It is very difficult to repair such items, but something was done.

Wojtek, what do you exactly mean with mounting stripes of grass? Does the ribbed fabric of an officer liner partly consist of willow grass or what do you mean?

I use a small round wood based rod. They come in 24” lengths and are very similar to the strips in our haubes. I had a neighbor 20 years ago that did basket weaving and I got them from her. I believe they use a similar product to wedge and retain the ends of the thin wood flat strips in a groove on the under side of woven antique cain chairs.

I have always used bamboo skewers thinned down.
I think that was used originally.
You can get them from your local grocery store.
Shis kabob skewers .

Thanks for some ideas to use to replace the wood strips in Private/Officers silk liners. The hi tack glue for repair the silk looks like a viable solution also. 👍🏻
Best regards
John
