Little eagle on your plate...

Here's one I designed for our family members to use (and other interested folks), referenced from the family crest and a variation on the Polish Eagle, which I don't personally like a lot... but still feel pride when I see it; figure that one out!

So, a Facebook friend copied it onto his page and one of his friends in England says, "Who ran over the vulture?"

OOOOO...... Slow burn on my part... Went on this fellow's page and found him to be a sports fan whose favorite team won a trophy (don't ask me who or what sport, just saw the trophy), so I replied, "Yes, heraldic rendering does flatten birds out, but I guess it's no more silly than a trophy with a Burger King crown on it. Ahhhh revenge. :)

So I don't know where I'm going with this, but what about the front plate?

Ron,

As a lover of heraldry, and an armiger myself, I have to protest and say, I lovvvvvvve the Polish eagle. It's a very, very majestic heraldic bird. :salute:

Steve,

....I also realize that the American eagle is also referred to as a chicken at times, does this offend Americans who have served? I do not know, but I doubt that it is considered to be a term used by a respectful historian.

My only experience with calling the American eagle something else had to do with the insignia of a US Army warrant officer. When I went through Warrant Officer Candidate School we "lovingly" referred to the insignia as the "squashed bug".

This whole thread has been one laugh after another :D Had no idea it would turn into this. But as Ron mentioned what about the plate? And in bringing that up, I was wondering about that? Because I can't find any REAL information about it. Wondering what the experts had to say. Does that wappen and small eagle only pertain to veterinarians or did it have other uses?

Hey Max,
I think this thread will help answer your question, this should be a Beamte plate.

By the way, I think this thread has been a very good discussion, we have had a lot of discussions that have offended members, and I gather from this discussion that anyone who is offended by any posting, is the one at fault for the offence, not the poster, and I have to admit that I have been at fault many times. It is great to have a consensus that no one should take offense where none is intended.
That being said, I still blame you Max:)
Best wishes
Gus

Hey Mikey,
the consensus is that we can use any terminology as long as it is not obscene, or intended to be insulting, and I have to admit that is the right thing, we can not always be worrying about how something we write may offend someone, that stifles discussion.
Best wishes
Gus

...fart in a bottle...
as we say in Flanders !

We say Tempest in a tea cup, which is basicly the same as a storm in a glass of water, it is interesting how different languages often use the same phrase, and also interesting how the same language (English and American English) can often be so different.

Bullwinkle is not Canadian!!
Ahem! Though it is quite true Bullwinkle J. Moose is a resident of Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, his character was originally conceived by Jay Ward as "Canadian Moose."

As the Japanese in the Molson commercial said, "Crose enough!" :study:

Hey Chas,
I can accept that Bullwinkle may have been conceive in Canada, but I have to hold on to my belief that he is a native born hero of the USA. The Canadians took the North Pole form us, along with Santa Claus, and then gave them to Russia (Santa even wears red now) If we allow the Canadians to claim Bullwinkle, thy could let the Russians have him too, and I would fear that he would be exicuted as a spy in Russia.
Bullwinkle being a native US citizen was my last real grasp on reality, as I have found out that Rocky was in fact a girl.
Best wishes
Gus

Hey Gus, that´s the ESSENCE of the whole discussion! That´s exactly "the" point!!! =D> =D> =D>

Philippe :salute:

But 'Swen' took offence and has gone off to South america to herd cats or something.

You know, this whole thing reminds me of an old, gypsy proverb........I just can't remember it at the moment...?

How about: "nothing is ever getting lost, all things only gonna be transformed" (physics theorem), :smilebox: or "one lost, ten recovered!" ? :newb:

You got that one right, but I am afraid I am offended that Bullwinkle is being cast as a Canadian, you can not understand how important he is to our history :D
Thanks to all for the great discussion, and for getting me straightend out on the issue, but I have to disagree wiht Brian on the colourfull money, I have never forgiven Canada for dropping the two dollar bill, that was always my favorite.
Best Wishes

Thanks for the compliment Mike! I just wanted to have some fun with the eagle and personalize it a bit for our family. Nobody in the family has put out a contract on me yet, so I think I'm safe!
