Every now and then I browse and encounter (to me) hitherto unknown websites about Pickelhauben. This time I found a vendor International Military Antiques (IMA) with several interesting offers like the one in the link.
Unless I've completely lost it (my family will now immediately holler: "Yes he has! Yes he has!"), this helmet sold by IMA as "Original German WWI Prussian M1895 Infantry Officer Pickelhaube" is neither "Officier" nor "M1895". It's unmistakably a Mannschaftshelm M1871, and seems a good and honest piece to me - apart from the superfluous Prussian Kokarde on the left side but that's dealt with in seconds.
As y'all know I have been out of serious collecting for a long time, so I'm kind of out of touch with prices for the (relatively) rare stuff like M1871's, and unfortunately I'm not only out of touch but also (still) out of money so I won't buy this one anyway. But if I would, and if I could, what do y'all think of the price of $995? This equals 798 euros which doesn't seem high at all to me for an apparently good and honest M1871. Whaddayah reckon?
And what about International Military Antiques? Anybody know them? It's kind of weird that they make this kind of a mistake in the description. Are they generally knowledgeable?
