Need help with 2 helmets

I am new here, so pardon my questions if they seem obvious to those who study these helmets. I bought three helmets from a local 30 years ago. He responded to an ad I had wanting WWII items. I thought these were pretty neat, so I bought them. They were quite cheap and look good displayed. I have been thinking of selling them, and I was told that these two have the wrong eagle plates on them. I really know almost nothing about WWI spike helmets, so I would appreciate any help you may give me in what plates I need, or size, correct name of plate needed, and possibly where I could buy the correct ones. I would like for them to be correct if I do decide to sell, or especially if I keep them. I did put a reproduction chinstrap on the spike helmet years ago, so that was added by me. If more pictures are required, please let me know. Thank you in advance for any help you may offer.
Dave

These are parts helmets
The gray Dragoon is all wrong and possibly that gray eagle should go on a JZP metal helmet.

The Uhlan gray eagle should be on a all gray hardware helmet without the brass scales.
The silver wappen could possibly be original but no way should be on this plate.
There is a debate if this gray plate was even issued without a center wappen.

So run don't walk away from these 2 .

Thank you for the replies. As I stated at first, I am not versed in these types of helmets. They were cheap and I liked the looks of them. I have had them for 30 years or more. What do the right front plates that I need look like? I have no idea. Here are some pictures of the inside. First, the spike helmet, then the Uhlan.

Your infantry helmet belonged to JR170, a regiment from Baden. It bears a wrong plate for a Dragoner or JzP cavalry regiment. It could be restored with a Baden pewter gray plate.

The other hat is a Garde Ulan Tschapka. The visor trim, chinscales, disc added to the eagle plate, Feldzeichen and Fangschnurr (cord) are all wrong. You can easily get rid of all this (the eagle itself is the correct one). The most difficult part to replace will be the visor trim in gray colour.

I had not noticed that other members above had already identified some of the flaws... I can confirm.
Could you show the whole Fangschnurr (cord) attached to the Tschapka?

The chin scales on the Tschapka are repros and do not belong on an OR’s model 1915 helmet. The tschapka should have the same side posts on it as your Baden M15 and a similar leather chin strap. The Prussian Dragoon style M15 helmet plate as stated does not belong on a Baden marked helmet, however, it looks original and if it is, then it is rare and would be easy to sell. The same eagle is used on the M15 Jaeger zu Pherde metal lobster tail helmets. So just to summarize, that plate was used on the leather Dragoon helmets and on the JzP. A photo of the reverse side of this plate would help with determining originality as we could see the patina on the solder and the gauge of wire used for the loops. All M15’s have the grey metal fittings so as Bruno mentioned, that brass trim has to go and it will not be easy to find an original replacement. Welcome to the forum! 👍

Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated. So for the spiked helmet, I am looking for a Baden pewter gray front plate, right? That is the name of what I search for? Here are some more pictures of the Uhlan. So the brass scales and brass visor trim don't go on this helmet? I can't imagine the brass visor trim being added, but this is the way I got it. What should go instead of the brass scales, regular leather type chinstrap?

This was the 3rd helmet I got from the guy. Is it a disaster too? Thank you b.loree for the info. I didn't see that until after I posted. I will get some pictures of the back of the plate and post them.

That is the way the cord came, so I'll have to find some pictures of one like it and see how it is braded. Thank you for the help.

Now that M15 kurassier helmet is totally complete and correct! You have the correct taller spike top, original chin strap and original large cavalry cockades ( painted serrated discs). Liner looks to be complete and correct for the M15....natural coloured leather. So great score on this one. The M 15 kurassier and JzP helmets are the most common BUT many do not have complete liners and most do not have original cockades or chin straps. Congratulations!

Finally, one correct. That is good news. Thank you. Where might a person go to find the correct front plate for the Baden M15 helmet. I want to start getting these two right as much as I can.

Hmmmm....I just took a look at the additional tschapka photos. The scales are definitely repros but I see that the side posts are brass. We do see M15’s with some brass pieces occasionally. I have a Hessen M15 with brass posts for example, so these might be ok and perhaps even the visor trim? Look inside the shell where the posts are fastened on. If you see scratches on the prongs or tin disc then these have been added, if not, then they could be original to the helmet. Do the same with the visor trim, check the prongs on the side pins for scratches in the old patina. Factory installed fittings also fit tight and proper to the shell, they were all installed with hand presses so no gaps. Your Baden spike base pins have never been messed with so take a look, that is what I am talking about.

EBay is probably your best bet.....either German or France. The French seem to have more original parts for sale but I have seen them on the USA site. Btw the BAXIV ink stamp is the correct Korps number for Baden and the 54.5 is the size in cm. Original leather chin straps go for $250+ US so keep that in mind 😊. Missing chin straps and cockades are the most common problems with haubes.
