New Acquisition - Baden Pickelhaube

Thanks Amy. I had given up but then thought I would ask one more time. Got lucky and he said yes.

He lives near my wife’s parents and within an hour of him saying okay he dropped it off at their place and they went right to the post office and mailed it to me.

I should get it by Wednesday this week. 😀

Good on you. Your collection is growing well. I shd have two baden coming in next week. One shako and a enlisted man. Will post pics if not too busy at work

The helmet arrived and I am really pleased.

I had to re-stitch the right half of the rear visor but thanks to previous help from Brian it was quite easy. Replaced the missing nut on the rear spine and the missing support disk inside. Aside from dings and crazing the helmet and liner are in really good shape. Has a name written in it which I hope someone can help me figure out.

The helmet was brought back by a soldier from the 110th Perth Battalion from Stratford, Ontario.

Now the most exciting part. It has a piece of paper inside under the liner that was placed the by the soldier who owned it. I assume it is from a parcel the soldier received. Looking to my German friends to help read it.

😀

Peter

I think I was able to decipher most of the text on the note. I have marked the words I am unsure about, but I'm pretty sure about the others.

PS: Landwehr may well be correct. I took a closer look and found evidence that enlisted men of the Train did not wear Landwehr crosses on their helmets. Only train officers did that.

That's great thanks Sandy.

Were you able to make out the name on the helmet at all?

Looking at it now I think it could be R. Schuller?

Cheers.

Peter

Excellent helmet Pete, congratulations ! That wrapping paper from the inside makes it even better. I definitely see Schuller penciled on that rear visor. Very cool piece!(y)

I would say the name inside the helmet is the same as the name on the note R. Schüler = Robert Schüler

Congratulations, Peter; the helmet looks better than initially pictured and is an excellent addition to your collection.
Best regards,
John
