The beautiful Model 1899 Kurassier helmet, Rgmt 3, 4,5,7,8 till 1902.
What we have here is a well-used reserve officer helmet .
Everything about this helmet is still the way it was when it was in use.
Note the vent holes are in the front and the back, and not at the sides as usual, I could easily unscrew the clover-teller and turn it in the right way, but the screws have gathered so much patina on them (possible from hair-grease) that I don’t want to interrupt in this aging proses, also the clover-leaves are embracing the helmet-dome very nicely and this might be different if I turn them in another direction, so this is the way it will stay, it’s an oddity ,sometimes oddities make things more interesting…

The size 57 is hidden under the kokarde.

There is also a number 10 under the spike. This can be seen from the inside as the helmet is made out of a very thin sheet of metal. These babies were super lightweights.
The neck liner shows wear, caused by the friction against the high collar of the kurassier-uniform.

There is a name and more written inside but it has worn off over the years, I can’t read much about it.

Hey Ed,

I usually look at the site when I get to work as a way to relax before getting going... I forgot to look at the photos (which don't open on our server) when I got home last night. I'm itching to see what you have here! Sounds good. I'll have to put a note in my pocket to take a peek when I get home tonight.

A very nice helmet Ed! If it was mine I could not help but put the spike back in the correct orientation, but this is just me...
You seem to suggest that Ron could be disappointed... I do not see why!
Congratulations, Bruno

Ed, you are absolutely correct! I certainly was not disappointed. What a wonderful helmet. Tres bien! (is that right?)

LOL, yes, I have a good friend in Germany who is a German born English teacher. Vernacular drives him crazy. I heard a student say, "I ain't done nothing wrong." Yes, exactly. That's why you're being sent out of class there kiddo!
Until I become fluent in French or German, then I'll just keep quiet and take the meaning. I know enough German to be dangerous (to myself) and so little French that I'm amusing and fun, even in Paris....

I'm always amazed at how well many Europeans and others (Asians, etc) speak English. The US is far behind on fighting the disease of monolinguism (speaking only one language) it's really quite sad and the ethnocentricity of many in the US makes it even worse.

A short English language lesson for those who speak English as a second language.
What do you call someone who speaks more than two languages?
Multilingual.
What do you call some one who speaks two languages?
Bilingual.
What do you call some one who speaks only one language?
American.

What really amazes me is the quality of English we find here with those who speak English as a second language. It is better than the English I hear from 80% of the native speakers.
It is always nice to get pointers in language if they are offered in a constructive manner.
Maggie and I were in Munich years ago and stopped at a hotel for a room, the concierge told us "Ich habe nur ein sehr kleines Zimmer" I responded, "Das ist OK, wir sind einfache Leute und brauche nichts Besonderes" She understood me and finished checking us in and then told me in English "Please do not say you are "einfache Leute" that is a very insulting to you ". What made this even more friendly was the fact that an American tourist had been ahead of us complaining about his room, in English, she spoke hardly a word of English to him. After my language lesson, she took the time to make several great recommendations to us in perfect English.

Nice joke Gustaf, but it’s a little harsh to our American friends,
The smaller the country ,the more languages they have ,Belgium ,Luxemburg ,Switzerland ,all have 3 national languages or more ,so from a young age in school we were taught French ,which made me interested in more other languages.
I think that being linguistic is a gene related skill, like others are good in math, or history…
Sometimes when I hear one of our ministers speak English on TV, I feel embarrassed in their place.

Today I’m very fluent …probably because I went to a Chinese restaurant yesterday evening. :sad1:

Nice avatar Ron ,great picture.
