The beautiful Model 1899 Kurassier helmet, Rgmt 3, 4,5,7,8 till 1902.
What we have here is a well-used reserve officer helmet .
Everything about this helmet is still the way it was when it was in use.
Note the vent holes are in the front and the back, and not at the sides as usual, I could easily unscrew the clover-teller and turn it in the right way, but the screws have gathered so much patina on them (possible from hair-grease) that I don’t want to interrupt in this aging proses, also the clover-leaves are embracing the helmet-dome very nicely and this might be different if I turn them in another direction, so this is the way it will stay, it’s an oddity ,sometimes oddities make things more interesting…
The size 57 is hidden under the kokarde.
There is also a number 10 under the spike. This can be seen from the inside as the helmet is made out of a very thin sheet of metal. These babies were super lightweights.
The neck liner shows wear, caused by the friction against the high collar of the kurassier-uniform.
There is a name and more written inside but it has worn off over the years, I can’t read much about it.
