Looks good IMO, liner is showing lots of wear, but that does not bother me. I like it. Proper back spine.

James
Thank you for your comment James.

Yes. The lining shows signs of age but, like you, that doesn't bother me as the rest is very nice and above all it's a helmet with a bandeau from a prestigious regiment.

Hello Richard,
nice helmet, nothing to say, everything is 0K. The front eagle banners are still attached and welded, so this is a Dragon eagle model 1867, found on the helmets, to which the 3 banners were added in 1899. Subsequently, the eagle and headbands were stamped in one piece (for the troop).

The curved scales on the chinstrap were very curved as long as the rider was armed with a sabre or spear. When he had to shoulder a carbine, the scales were less curved, so as not to get in the way.

Hello Clovis,

Thanks for your opinion about my helmet and for sharing your knowledge regarding the subject. (y)

Another beautiful helmet from AOK.
I am also thinking all is OK on it, even if I would have prefered it, considering the price, with a clear DR9 stamp.
Philippe
Thank you Philippe.

Maybe I'll clean the helmet a little and restore the shine to the plate for example.

Richard, I would let it as it.
There are two opposite opinions about how those old things have to look like.
Some collectors want to have them as they were, shiny and clean. Other collectors do not want to change anything from the old patina, because this is a part of the helmets story too...And this mostly is the proof that the helmet is still untouched and that nothing on ist has been moved on or off, or manipulated at some time.

Philippe,

I know there are two schools of thought about this subject. I have always kept my helmets in their original condition, just removing the dust; apart from one exception for a French Dragoon helmet where I had to treat the leather of a chinstrap which risked splitting because it was too dry.

You are going to tell me why changing my approach for this helmet. Maybe because it has a nice bandeau.
I will think about all this even if I tend to continue to opt for your approach of things.
