Between 1850 and 1950, Pont-à-Mousson (Lorraine) was a thriving centre for the manufacture of a wide range of furniture (vases, chairs, etc.) in papier-mâché (lacquered).
Andy:I am making this thread dedicated to my favorite ersatz pickelhauben. Some people refer to them as paper ersatz or even paper maché. Others call them cardboard. Whichever the name, they fascinate me as a substitute material for pickelhauben. Out of all the ersatz materials for them, I have the hardest time finding information on cardboard ersatz. I’ll will share and go into detail the ones in my collection and I welcome any input and information regarding them. Cheers!View attachment 57807
I hope so too Gabe !The spike looks slightly off to me. Is this possibly one of those British reproductions?
There was a helmet with a similar spike that was determined to be a British reproduction making its way around the internet about 2 years ago. Hopefully this isn't the case.
