Pickelhauben Regimental Markings

In the world of old things, Amy asked a question which is worth answering especially for the newer members. We have a set of markings on a list that is spread out over three websites. Yes, I could probably do a lot better. These markings came from members who gave authorization to post them over the years. Believe it or not, this was initially posted in 2007! It had been added on to many times since then. The list is pretty long. It is free. I have a bunch of marks that I have not yet posted but I will get around to it eventually. Maybe I will even change the dates! You never know what I'm going to do. But here are the three websites for the lists:

I have this on my M1915 Enlisted Man's Pruessen Pickelhaube.
Any ideas on the U.B. stamp?
One knowledgeable friend mentioned that it could be from an Unteroffizier Schule.

It is hard for me to see. I believe the oval stamp is a maker. As to the unit stamp, I can see 1916 and II.B, which I take to be 2nd battalion.

Folks,
Thanks for all the information in this post. I am sure that it is a fantastic reference for collectors such as myself, who only dabble around the edges of Pickelhaube collecting.
Best regards,
John

Here is a makers mark from a recent pickup: Maker Stamp Kern, Kläger & Co 1916.

Were the helmets initially stamped with only a regimental marking or is it possible that they could be stamped with a brigade marking instead? Also, would the marking be made by hand or a unit stamp?
I pose this question because of the stamped marking I have found on a recently acquired Bavarian Pickelhaube that seems to be marked 18IR or 18IB? Thanks in advance for any replies to my questions.
Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I used to have a nice Bavarian M95, which was stamped 13IR, but in ink, not pressed in the helmet. And, if you recall James had 5 helmets for sale here
on the forum, one of which, a Bavarian too, an M95, was stamped exactly the same as your helmet, 18IR. Pressed in the leather.

Helmet #1
So I'm inclined to believe it say's 18 IR. I saw this more when visiting collector friends of mine, but took no pictures..

Greetings, Coert. (by the way, I bought a nice M15 Bavarian today, will post pictures when it arrives here).

Hi Coert,
Thanks for your reply; this is the Pickelhaube that James had for sale and now resides with me. I should have mentioned that upfront to save the confusion. It has a maker's mark of Hans Romer with a date stamp of 1910 or 1913. Anyhow, I look forward to seeing your M15 Bavarian when you have time to post it.
Best regards,
John
