Rarest of All Pickelhaubes

Right now, I would like a well marked OR’s helmet to Baden JR109 or the Anhalt JR 93 wappen I need to complete my M95 helmet clearly marked to this Regiment.

My only wish:
A Grenadier OR helmet from the GR1-GR12, well marked from the Kammer. with wearer name in it and with the big Grenadier Adler. Or a KJR145 after September 1913, even with the Grenadier Eagle...

Philippe

I have seen the KIR 145 both ways .I have officers and enlisted .I stopped doing photos
after the Photobucket problem .I guess that I need to learn the new system so
that I could post photos of them . I also have a well marked KIR 145 before the " new eagle "
It is one of my favorite regiments .

I should have added that the Prussian Grenadier Regiments 1 thru 12
are also my favorites . For me G R 4 enlisted helmet is the hardest to find .
More difficult than the officers helmet for G R 4 .

The last models was generally semplified with round bases and prussian type spikes, but your one is the perfect regulation. It's a superb helmet.

So great job, Bruno. You was able to add a fluted spike with the exact colour's tonality. I like it a lot.

It is not exactly that, Giorgio. I told the story before: this guy in San Francisco had two M15s for sale, this Mecklemburg and a bavarian in rather poor condition. Unfortunately, spikes had been inverted. I tried to convince him that the fluted one was for the other helmet but he never wanted to believe me. He seemed to know nothing about the subject (or pretended not to...). Eventually I had to buy both helmets, the chance to find an M15 Mecklemburg detachable spike as a spare part being not exactly high.
Therefore it is actually the spike it was born with.

So this is the real story of your stunning piece. You saved a masterpiece of imperial german militaria.

A Hawaiian Pickelhaube!

I don't know if you are serious or not, but the Hawaiian militia did wear a sun helmet with a spike! I've been trying to obtain one for years!

There is also the discussion of rarest vs. what one wants. I still want a USMC dress spike helmet and I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the one that was for sale at the Baltimore Show in March. That is an uncommon helmet but not especially rare.

As for rare, I think the Madagascar spiked helmets are among the most rare - only known one is in the Musee d'Armee in Paris. Less than 100 probably existed. The spiked helmet/shako used by the Persian Guards are rare too. I saw one in the Turkish Military Museum in Istanbul.

Not directly related, but once I found an ersatz felt Prussian helmet on Reunion island, east of Madagascar...

Yes, that is the one. There was a nice one at Baltimore and for some reason I waited too long to buy it. I don't know why I waited - actually I do, I had already spent a lot of money! I should have just spent a bit more!

Yes, that is the one. These are American helmets - I'm not sure who makes the current ones but the old ones were apparently surplus American Model 1887 helmets with a badge added. I did try to reach out to the Honor Guard, which is part of the state's National Guard unit and was unable to buy one.

I believe that until WW2 Hawaii fell under the Regulations for the department of the Philippines. This would mean that '87 helmet was still being worn way into the 20th century. As a government supplier the current manufacture should be public record.

I did a little on line surfing about the Hawaiian helmet and found this stuff;

Site also has photos of the white helmets - there were at least two different models.
