I inherited this and don't know anything about it can anyone give me information and value?

a prussian officer kurassier helmet and kurass!!
we need more detailed pictures but both seem authentic and in excellent shape, (please other members correct me if I'm wrong),
seldom to be found on the market, so a little difficult to price but if the pictures don't fool me I would guess
(and it is not usual to value items on this forum)

on rittmeister or Weitze they would ask extreme prices for it, but generally...

I would like to own the set!!
and I'm already some time looking for a Kurassier officer helmet to accompany my kurass.
are you planning to sell it?
 
These are quite valuable items. I cannot give you any value on these, as I collect the usual pickelhauben, and medals.
The helmet seems to be a Kurassier officer one, the kurass too. Michiel just posted some values for them, as I was still busy typing my message.
These items are quite expensive!

I'm not planning on selling right now but maybe someday. My Uncle left it to me when he passed away so its pretty special to me. I just had no idea when or where it was from and wanted to know how careful i should be with it. I made the stand to get it off the floor.

Any idea how to care for it? Or should I just leave it alone?
 
If I were you, I'd just leave them alone, just a casual dusting would be fine. But keep them out of any rooms where moisture is.
Do not polish them, it will only bring the value down. You sure have a great inheritance from your uncle.
What you could do however, is look for any markings on them, so we can identify them more, unit, etcetera.
On the kurass can be markings, on the helmet too, like makers marks on the inside, where the spike is fitted, the rear visor can have size stamps, in the trim. Regimental marks can be found underneath one of the kokarden.
 
Your stand pretty much takes care of everything, it displays very well. I would just dust the set on a regular basis (outside surfaces) and make sure the it is kept away from any sunlight. The helmet is in excellent condition, in many cases that silk liner is torn or stained, this is like new. Last, anyone who handles this should wear cotton gloves. Some folks have acidic skin oils/sweat and this can leave marks in the surface of the steel. This is an awesome kurassier officer set and you have all of the collectors here drooling! 😊

I noticed that one side has red by the chin strap anchor and the other side has black.

I will definitely stop handling it then or wear gloves from now on. The top of the stand is padded to keep it from damaging the liner of the helmet. It is kept in a low humidity and dark room unless bulbs are used.

Was he a military collector ?
Did he have other helmets ?

@Jennychap16, the reason you see red on the right side, and black on the left, thats because the red stands for the national color of the German empire, the black on the left means it's Prussian. These are the kokarden. Behind those, you might find regimental markings. But I advise you not to look, it might harm the chinstrap if you remove them, we might do so, in fact I would, but you have to be very careful removing them, so I advise you to leave them well alone. You sure have a set most collectors, including me, can only dream of!

Hi Jenny,

You don't know it but your very lucky to have inherited such a beautiful and expensive grouping, any member here would love to own it. Your relative really loved and cared for them and it really shows.

Anyone here would also love to add it to their collection so if you ever decide to pass it on to someone who would appreciate it and care for it like they did, please contact us.

I'm sure someone here would not try to low ball you and would give you fair market value, but until that day arrives , if it does please take good care.

As Coert said: don’t remove the chinstrap, as it is an officer’s helmet there are no markings to be expected ( enlisted soldiers helmets are marked, officers not), so don’t risk it

Everyone keeps telling me to sell it including my husband because I'm to scared to do anything with it and its just sitting in our upstairs study where nobody ever sees it and its been there for 2 years now. I'm not convinced yet but If I did sell it how would I go about doing it? Auction?
I also have 2 swords but I'm not sure if they go with it or not.
