dear fellow collectors,

as said before I own a holliday house near the front of august 1914,

recently I encountered a Belgian individual interested in the first world war that found some relics on the battlefields of august 1914, (battle of the frontiers), the bloodiest day in french military history was august 22 1914 with 27.000 soldiers killed on a single day, in Anloy also 50 civilians were killed by the germans thus making it one of the " villages martyr" of the great war.

he collect stuff found of the battlefield of Maissin where he lives (and keeps those), but has also some relics of nearby battlefield locations

part of that battle was the battle of Anloy where the Hessian division fought, and those he agreed to sell to me for a modest sum, (although is buckle found is prussian)

so here are some battlefield relics from those bloody august 1914 days in the ardennes forests:

The plate from a field grave later discarded in the forest appeared on this site before.
(it was the lead that led me to find the owner)

hope you like them

Very nice Michiel,
Thank you for showing. The belt buckle looks like the pre-1895 model, could you please show the back?
Regards,
Lars

As we just left our holiday home I can’t right now, but will be back on Friday, will make a photo then

Very nice catch Michiel 👍
That is indeed a M1847 belt buckle .
They where worn very often during ww1.
We've found a few of them as well nearby Verdun..

Very interesting discoveries.

A word of caution regarding the Prussian loop: it all depends on the precise location of the discovery, as this loop may have been lost during a battle in 1870 (Mézières, Sedan, etc.). Here in Gravelotte (Metz), there's no problem; World War I didn't take place there, but in the Ardennes... there was 1870, World War I, and World War II.
