I picked this helmet up in Rothenburg ob der Tauber this past Christmas eve. I appreciate your thoughts on it.

Unfortunately, from what I see...we have a mixture of officer and ordinary soldat fittings here. The shell is an OR's as well as the rear spine and kokarden. The rear visor is modern made and has been stitched on. The officer kugel ball obviously again, is an add on as it does not fit. So basically an OR's helmet which has been cobbled together to look like an officer helmet. There are some good fittings there....hopefully you did not pay too much.

Brian, as always, I appreciate your experienced eye when it comes to these pickelhauben. With this one, we did, unfortunately, pay more than we should have. I'm glad to have my suspicions confirmed, as it didn't look as suspicious in the shop in Germany; I'm not sure why... jetlag maybe... but my wife wanted to buy it for me for Christmas. In any case, I'll keep it around.
