The pictures caption reads:
"Two German Frontsoldiers as marksmen; around 1915. Armed with the 'Scharfschützen-Gewehr 98'. One notices the different optics and scope mounts. Next to the binoculars they were equiped with the leather scope pouch" No mention of the unit.

From the superb museum in Koblenz-Germany: Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung (WTS) of the Bundeswehr (German Army).
Great stuff: from a pistol round to the WW II Gerät 040 (60 cm Mörser/Mortar 'Karl') shell. And yes...some Pickelhauben as well ! I'll post the pics later (Musea).
A complet artillery hall and a complete floor on small arms: including a complete precision rifles history. Radio and Radar...
Another reason to go: the superb Mosel wines. 8-)

Rgds,
Francis

Lots of interestingness (is that a word?) in this picture.

I'd say they were Bavarians - larger-than-usual, light coloured cockades, flattened mützen, almost looking like berets was a favoured way of wearing the Feldmütze by Bavarians and lastly, and the most telling, ribbons for the Militär-Verdienstkreuz.

S71 bayonet, corduroy trousers and gaiters - Landwehr?

Great picture. Thanks!

Great photo.

I don't suppose you noticed if they had a 7.5cm Schutztruppe Mountain Gun at the Koblenz Museum, did you Francis? I have heard a rumour there is one there but never been there myself...

Cheers
Chris

That is a wonderful museum. I heard that they were going to close it down and sell off all the cannon, panzers, and the like. I am happy to hear it is still open. Koblenz is a fantastic town too.
